Frame packs

It sounds like you already see the answer. The frame is overkill unless you need to haul heavy loads. I would get a backpack with "wings" that woods all your gear and compresses down to little when unloaded and hanging in the tree.

Frames are handy though. Especially with a freighter shelf. I primarily use mine for hauling heavy loads of bear bait with a 13 gallon garbage can.

Funny was just reading through this and read this as "Heavy loads of Beer", and I was like, wow, thats a great idea... uh I mean a lot of beer, who would do that? ;-) can you tell it's almost friday and I', sick of being at work???

I ended up with the LLBean carry-all. So far it’s working for me.

I use the LL Bean Hunter's Carryall.

Inexpensive and works well. For how little I use a pack like this, I couldn't justify an expensive one.

I have a Kifaru I love for out west but I use one of these 'LL Bean carryall for everything. I have hauled deer out, bear bait in and a bunch of other stuff. It has more than paid for itself and for the money it was well worth it.

Have any of you guys seen or tried the pack rabbits? I'm looking for the best way to pack in spurs, platform, jacket/bibs, saddle/ropes and my bow. I'm thinking a pack frame would work best. Everything strapped to it, with no zippers. Quiet and easy. The price of that LL bean pack right now means I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for sharing that G2 and co!
Here's what I was referring to:

That pack rabbit looks very similar to the new guido’s Web. I wonder if the new web will be designed to use as a frame pack as well.

Yes, As I type, John is designing a new seat just for this. He will be sending me more pictures soon.

Mystery Ranch Popup is what I am going to this season, it is perfect for my needs. I think you could certainly make the Molle work too if you are exclusively using it for deer hunting.

Thanks, I saw your other post on this and I’m really thinking about this one. Is it big enough though is my only concern now. Would it fit a jacket and bibs with everything else or would you have to strap them to the outside?

It looks like it’ll either be the perfect size or not big enough. I’m starting to think one pack isn’t gonna work for the whole season.

Yes and no I guess. I certainly wouldn't mind it being a little larger bag. This one is 28 liters, I think 35 would be be perfect size if I designed it. But down to 20 or 30 degrees I can get all my stuff in fine. Having the load shelf helps for odds and ends like raingear, booties, hand muffs, etc. For weight distribution you actually want to maximize the space on the load shelf. My cold weather gear is First Lite Woodbury and some Kryptek puffy pants, so those are on the more packable side. I would certainly struggle to make my old cotton coveralls work. Without getting into detail of all my other gear, I am no ultralite but I don't bring the kitchen sink either. I have a NICE frame and Metcalf if I do have to step it up.
