G2 Hunting Journal - 2017 Season

Oh man OH MAN!!! That's the kinda stuff we live for!! Can't wait to see how this plays out!

The wind looks like it's going to stay out of the W/NW at approximately 11mph. I'm leaving work early today. I have a general area picked out on the eastern side of his core area in a patch of live oaks that were dropping tons of acorns. I'll sneak in and try to setup about 75 yards from his bed. Hopefully the wind helps cover my setup.

This will be my very first run-n-gun bed setup. I've hunted bedding areas a lot, but never setup focused on 1 specific buck bed.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Just go slow for that last 100 yards or so. Laser focused setup with zero noise. You can do it. The wind will certainly help you. Good luck!

If you were east of I95 that was the marsh buck lol. Where’s your quota hunt.

Lol. Definitely east, but that's not him.

Quota hunt was slow for me. Only killed 2 pigs. Video coming soon.

Love the hand signals also. Just kidding about the marsh buck. He has to be at least twice that big. The island deer are even smaller. Saw a seven point killed on Cumberland that might go 80”. Live weight was 112 ages at 4.5 years. Saw more rubs there than anywhere I’ve ever hunted. Looking forward to the pig video. Reason I asked about quota Georgia has a few wma quota hunts with above average chances at trophy deer.

I didn't get the pig kills on video. It was after the hunt was technically over. We were driving back to the meet-up site and I saw a bunch of pigs out in a field. I banged on the top of the cab (I was riding on the tool box in the bed) and we all jumped out, ran 100 yards into the field and we each killed a few. One hunter killed 5! The whole thing was done in 10 minutes.

Reminded me of the old "Bubba" videos that the BuckMasters used to put out....."There he is...the one that haunts my dreams!" and a spike steps out LOL :D

Just got word that my afternoon meeting got cancelled. That frees up my afternoon and it's a brisk (for southern Georgia at least) 60°. I think I might just sneak away and setup on the South edge of the Marsh Grass Buck's core area. The wind is out of the North West. He might get up early and go for a walk about.

If he's like my bucks here he might be out cruising! Got a cell cam pic of a shooter at 10:15 this morning!

Finally pulled a trail camera and got 5 pics of my Marsh Grass buck with a doe. The pics aren't great, but I'll post them anyway. He's definitely a great deer for a public swamp. They don't grow huge in this area.

I'm really hoping he made it through the season. The pics are from late October with almost 3 months of hunting season left. I doubt he survived, but the swamp is so tough to hunt, I'd say his odds are at least decent. Fingers crossed.

Post em up! I bet he made it. I find that in my area they usually make it even with HEAVY gun pressure. I'm hoping you get another crack at him!
