Going hybrid

So I’m going to set some ladder stands on the back side of a tree for spots I’m going to hunt on the regular. My plan is to climb up that back side of the tree and set my saddle and use the ladder top stand as my platform. Anyone else doing this?

What’s next? Is this a gateway to hybrid broadheads and crossbows? Kidding. Seriously kidding. I own that gear too. All has its place.

Semper Fi,
Mike

Yep, I have a ladder stand set up on my 3d course that I practice out of this way. Also, @Bigterp gave me a ladder stand a couple years ago when he sold his place that I have set up as a preset on my property. It can work well.

I tried this exact thing in my yard just so I could have a permanent way to get up a tree and then set up my saddle just to practice shooting out of. It worked fine for the most part for me but I don’t like heights to begin with and I found a lot more pucker factor doing this in my yard than I was expecting. But when I set up for real in the woods, I’m pretty much completely fine. I guess because the trees around me are just as tall so doesn’t feel like I’m as high up as I am. Seems like it should work pretty well to me.

Not exactly but I have my "practice tree" set up with climbing sticks and a platform 23 feet up along with a rappel rope. I climb up and am shooting from my saddle in a matter of minutes. Rappel down in seconds to retrieve my arrows and repeat.

Using a ladder stand to hunt from while wearing a saddle is similar to how guys wearing women's clothing got started, and look how that turned out! :tonguewink::tearsofjoy:

I've climbed up ladder stands and set a hang on or platform a stick or two higher.

I don't really love the expanded metal most ladder stands (and many lock-ons) use, especially when leaning in a saddle. I find those surfaces noisy and a bit slick when wet or icy. You might want to add some textured paint like @Mopar1169 uses on his platforms.

I have the same setup at home. Also had 3-4 trees setup with Grade 8 bolts and cheap $10-20 hang on stands also bolted into the trees.

You could use a Muddy lifeline as a tether. Clip in on the ground, climb like normal, etc. I'm actually probably going to do this exact same thing on one of my ladder stands. Thankfully, it's pointing the wrong way, so I'm already set.
