What is the clip called that keeps your rappel rope from sliding down the tree. I’ve searched everywhere.

:)

figured out I don't need it if I use a mini carabiner instead of quick link or any of those overkill overweight shackles. Say what you will, I'm happy

:)
I have been using the tether-locker for 2 seasons and am happy with it.

I just rip a hair tie and triple knot top and bottom. Slides up and down easy enough, holds delta link in place, cheap and easily replaceable.

I made this while I was fooling around with rappelling. It is a short section of air hose cut down one side and then a hole punched in the other. The hose wants to stay round so it acts like a natural spring. Just throwing this in the mix, lol.

I've been using a Nite-Ize Gear Tie for three seasons now. IT is just in back of my anchor knot on my rappel line which holds the delta link. I wrap it around, not even really just loop it up enough to hold the rappel line. Once there's weight on the rappel line, it is virtually unnecessary. Once on the ground, I move to the right, with my rope retrieval and the gear tie is flexible enough to allow me to tug a bit and usually the rope comes right down.

not a bad idea at all. I wonder though if cutting a slit horizontally into the hole would allow you to remove from the rope (and still keep its spring/hold) without having to slide it up and down the length of the rope initially or live on the rope.

That might work. It would be worth a try to see. Just don't cut a 2 inch section out of the middle of a 100 foot air hose, lol.
