Interesting Video On Mature Buck Movements

Very consistent to what I find in Nepa. I said this a couple times already.
If you want a nice younger buck, Oct 28th- around the 7th is go time. A mature buck is the 8th to the 20th. I see it on my cams every year.
I really try to learn and pickup knowledge for myself to be a better buck hunter. The very best hunters I know of, and guys on YouTube like Infalt, Womack and Eberhart are all self taught. They paid attention to what deer do and studied it.
So I try to block them out and pay attention to what these blasted Mtn deer do.
But the one bit of info that one of them gave and have experienced beyond any doubt is Eberharts advice on security cover. I don't care how good a rut funnel looks, or how bad you want it to work. I won't hunt it if it's devoid of security cover. I have never ever seen a huge buck run around willy nilly in wide open hardwoods looking for a doe. They absolutely start moving around cruising, but they still cruise in the confines of security cover.
Ive posted this once before. Here's one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen in my area. 20230628_162210.gif
And the date. Screenshot_20230929_060002_Gallery.jpg
Here he is on the back side of that MTN almost a 3/4 of a mile an half hour laterScreenshot_20230929_055622_Gallery.jpg
The way he got there that quickly was through the most horrible MTN laurel you've ever walked thru. You can see it just starts behind him and gets worse on

I find it taxing to just simply catalog my trail cam photos as to property, time of year, etc. He had to have spent a lot of time on that database.

I completely agree with the above. Where I hunt (Southeast WV and Southwest VA) the 14th is my magic number. A day or 2 before and after is when I have seen and killed the majority of my biggest bucks. Last year it was the 9th that I killed a good one, but got daylight pictures of bigger ones on the 15th.

I am a believer in the moon stuff as well, and it seems that whatever days/dates in October that I see good daylight activity, those same days/dates will be active in November as well, based on the moon cycle (at least that is what I have convinced myself of :) ).

I agree the video is just a confirmation of daylight movement generally increasing as we move toward peak breeding for a particular area. But I didnt see much else to gain from it. A lot of other factors to consider though, imo.

Take this weekend for example, temps are going to be almost 20 degrees above normal but it is a perfect moon for bucks to be on their feet. I am going to be hunting some private ground primarily in hopes of shooting a doe or two but will be curious to see how the deer move. Plus or minus 3-4 days of the full moon is always my favorite period. One of my best friends killed his target buck (170") a couple days ago with right moon way above avg temps. Shot was an hour before sundown.

Make it simple. Excel spreadsheet. Just highlight the day, and AM or PM.

500 trail camera pictures. Maybe only a few with larger bucks during daylight hours.
