Kestrel is here! My thoughts.....

I have been out for a family emergency so I just opened my box late last night. I will more then likely cut the leg straps off (too heavy and to much noise potential for my personal taste). Perhaps new tribe in the future can offer an option that sews the leg straps on directly. I for one do not mind stepping into a saddle and much prefer that over added weight and a potential source of noise.

As far as construction - its New tribe - everything they developed is made very well.

I like, and dislike the leg straps lol. I don't like having them on while walking, but while climbing or sitting they don't bother me at all. I'll most likely leave mine for this season and see what I think after my hunting is over. I can see this being my main saddle for a long time so I don't want to change anything until I fill evaluate it. So far I am really like it tho!

I love the leg straps. When I am wearing the saddle the extra weight is meaningless to me where they are at. With @kyler1945's buckle covers, it is perfect! I think the extra safety factor the leg straps add is well worth the minimal weight.

If the leg buckles are an issue, just buy some slides and convert it to a fixed length leg straps. It would be an easy mod.
Excellent!

I really like the leg buckles just for the ease of putting it on and taking it off. I hated in nasty, wet, or snowy weather having to step into the Evolution.

So far the noise isn't an issue but if it is I will cover them with tape or fleece. As to the weight it doesn't bother me the Kestrel is even lighter than the Evolution and I felt that was ultralight compared to my old equipment!

Bassboys mod sounds like a pretty good compromise if the buckles are a definite deal breaker.

I agree the quality is just outstanding like all of their stuff.

Roger,

It's sad when your sound asleep and you hear your wife say "UPS just left you a package from New Tribe" and you jump up and start to run and realize it's pitch dark then you look at the clock it's 2:30 in the morning! It was all just a dream. So the wait continues but as they say the best things come to those who wait

Once yesterday the leg straps were putting pressure in a sensitive area. The way I look at it is if they were doing that I was sliding down in the saddle and they did what they were supposed to.

Excellent!

I do not even know the leg straps or the waist belt is even there with the kestrel. I just finished my third hunt this morning with the kestrel and the buckles make zero noise.

Good to hear the buckles aren't making any noise and it seems like the comfort level is on par with the Evolution for most hunters! I can't wait to get out and do some hunting out of mine!!! Keep the reviews coming....

Roger,

I finally got to hunt out of mine this past Saturday. I am new to the whole saddle hunting, so all I can compare my sit in the kestrel to is the Saturday before last sit in my web. They are two totally different animals, the web is obviously going to have a large comfort advantage, but the simplicity of the kestrel is a huge advantage in my opinion. I will definitely use the web as well, but I think the kestrel will get many more hours of use, due to ease of pack ability with sticks, backpack bow etc. I will probably use the web more for all day sits. The quality of the kestrel is top notch and the molle straps are as well placed as can be expected with the size of it. I really think I have found my new method of hunting. I have put 4 of my hang-ons for sale and my XOP climber and lone wolf hang on are still in the garage! Now I just need to figure out the best, easiest, and lightest climbing method that will work for me, using 4 lone wolf sticks now that I have two, two step climbing webbing added to and I made double sided steps for them instead of the single flip steps.

If allowed, consider spurs.

I hope I can work it out, just too far out now to be sure. I would definitely like to try a set if I can go.

Roger,

I have an Evo too , I can not decide between the two as far as comfort goes yet but mobility is hands down the Kestrel.

Im right with u far as the dreaming of it bein here! However i just got an email mine has shipped!!! ... Now if i could just find a way to test it out from the combine seat this week!

Hunted out of it twice very comfortable, leg straps are excellent. I had no pain or fatigue from sitting in it and it is very comfortable. I do not wear it walking in I put it in my backpack and put it on at the base of the tree works out well that way. I am very satisfied with the Kestrel and Newtribe really did a great job on this saddle.
