Anyone fished lake Cumberland in Kentucky? Looks like I'll be down with the family this summer for a week. Contemplating bring my boat to fish some. But have no idea how hard it is to get on any fish. Contemplating just looking for a charter for the day. But most of them seem to chase stripe bass. My son still really wants to catch catfish. Seems like a good place. Fishing a lake/river like that looks very different to the larger bodies of water I fish in Michigan. Anyone have experience fishing that lake river? Is it pretty safe for running a deep V boat? Or do I have to use caution in areas.
Thanks

I am 15min from the lake. Been fishing it since the 80,s. Very deep lake. Alot of Pilgram traffic during the summer. During the week traffic slowes down some. I tend to fish the lake before memorial day and after labor day. But you can fish in the summer by fishing early or at night.
I live on the river below the dam. Good trout fishing and some walleye at times.
I do not fish for catfish, but we catch a few while walleye fishing on the lake.
What week are you comming down?
How big is your boat?

My boat is 17' with a 90hp. We are going to be down mid July. But we are staying down in Bronston. So not on the lake, but up the river further. So not sure if the fishing is good up that way. Or if it's calm enough I could just take my kayak and fish a few evenings. If all the better fishing is down on the larger part, it's a long boat or truck ride to get that way. So if I gotta spend a lot of time getting to and from more populated fish areas it probably isn't worth it. If I can put in near there and catch fish it's worth it. I'm not picky on what it is. I'm pretty happy landing bluegill and bass all evening. Anything else is a bonus.
How's the fishing under the dam? Kayak easy? Or pretty fast flowing? Can you fish from the shore in places? Waders?

I do not know much about that end of the lake. I would call some bait shops in that area for info on fishing. I think you may have less boat traffic up the river.
Yes you can fish below the dam from the shore. Mostly trout. Alot of people kayak down the river. You will need someone to pick you up down river. These guys rent Kayaks put you in and pick you up. They are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

If you decide to fish the river, you need to fish on the weekend.
The fish bite best just as they start generating power. During the week it can be too much water flowing so they can generate power. Water level is too high. On the weekend they flow the water low or medium for fisherman.
There is a TVA app that gives you the generating schedule.

That's interesting. I never heard of anyplace that adjusted water flow for fishermen. I know some other places around there let the water out for rafting. But not fishing..
