Lets see your TREE

Red, the tree rope you are using has an ascender instead of the prussic knot?

Yes, I took the blakes hitch off and am trying out the wild country ropeman 1 ascender. So far it is working great.

It looks like it would work very well..... The only thing I dont like about the prussic knot set up is the ease of adjustment is not there.

Yea I don't like that either. The only thing with this is that you have to put slack in the line to adjust it. Not a problem if you work on getting it right while you still have your lineman's belt on.

I have to say I am amazed that everyone is doing there rope wrong when going around the tree. Everyone is only going thru the loop one time and it supposed to be two times which helps with it sliding down the tree, it almost makes a knot. Give it a try guys I am sure you will like it better.

It's only wrong if you slide down the tree :)
A lot of us go through the loop twice.
My rope is so stiff that if I don't, just standing up on my platform makes the rope slide down.
I'm switching to a different rope.

You'll see that a lot of guys put a hook on the tree to keep the rope from sliding.
Or they will double wrap the tree.

That sounds like a good tip...I'll have to give it a try!

Try going thru twice and it won't slip, if it does junk the china rope lol

The problem with mine is that it is Rappeling Rope.
It is tough and stiffer so it doesn't bind to the tree bark as much.
Once the double loop-through settles with weight, it stays put.

What I don't like then is that I like to keep my Tree Strap connected while I am tearing down my platform.
I move my Tree strap down a couple of feet and climb down a step or two under my platform.
If there is a branch that I need to pass on the way down, I like to keep the Strap attached until I can put my Linesmans Belt below that branch.

Yesterday coming down a tree, I had trouble getting my rope loose enough to move down the tree 6' (it was difficult to get it loosened and then tightened back up enough to hold me).

I have ordered some Yale Bandit Rope from wesspur.
Think it will be way better.
Will make a thread about it when I get to compare.

So far with the rope strap from new tribe, if I cinch it tight there is no slide at all with only one time through.

I'm using the HSS Rope style tree strap. They're only $19 so I can buy multiple of them. I just get rid of the small heavy carabiner it comes with and use my Petzl William gate lock. The rope bites just fine without going through twice. Once I cinch it super tight around the tree and put my weight on it, it's not going anywhere until I loosen it with my hands.

So I ended up buying the new tribe trees trap because I wasn't liking how long it was taking me to get setup and adjusted with the trophyline tree strap. I gave the trophyline strap the field test saturday afternoon and loved it. Took my all of but a minute to get strapped into the tree and I didn't have any issues with the strap sliding and having to hold it against the tree while trying to tie it double under to stop if from slipping. Definitely the way to go for ease-of-use.

Glad to see you back in the saddle! ;)

Is your tree strap hanging off a branch? It looks very vertical.

Good eyes. Yes it was. Large branch. I ended up realizing I picked a tree that was too big.

That is the biggest limitation I have found with using the rope strap. I like my rope strap with my ropeman 1 ascender... but I can only hunt a tree up to about a foot in diameter with it. My custom tree strap is similar in design to the trophyline but lighter and I can hunt much bigger trees with it.

Couldn't you just buy a longer rope? Or is there some sort of other issue that is limiting you with the rope?
