Lightest climbing sticks

Bored on Saturday and I married a set of singles w a set of doubles. I like the idea of single steps but I rather set the next stick on a double step.
I think these will work out nicely.

I played with that idea because I don’t need doubles on each step but definitely like to be on two steps when hanging my next stick. So a double at the bottom and a single at the top is a great idea.

Also allows you to use a versa aider otherwise you need one for each foot/leg to make it work.

Wait, you and @Fl Canopy Stalker stand on your bottom step to hang the next stick? I always stood on the top step to hang the next stick to set it higher (and typically use a one step aider). Aren't you giving up a decent amount of height (the length of the stick) setting your next one from the bottom?

I also preordered the latitude sticks. I probably shouldn't have, but oh well. I assume I'll be able to resell them or my beast sticks in August/September after I decide which one I like better.

I stand on the bottom step as well to hang my next stick. I put it chest high and it’s the perfect distance between sticks, but I’m not using an aider. If I were using an aider, I’d probably stand on the top step.

In the time since I posted I've realized that the aiders is what the difference is, with no aider the stick spacing is smaller. I have wire cable aiders on my beasts and plan on putting amsteel ones on the latitudes (I have some extra 7/64 still, didn't buy theirs)

I don’t usually use aiders except on my first stick off the ground. The other 3 I just hang about 20 or so inches above the stick I’m on. Aiders, especially in the dark, aren’t my favorite thing to stick my feet in, going up or coming down. If I were using aiders on each step, I still can’t see where you’d be giving up much room because you could still set your stick So that the aiders is roughly the same height as the stick would be without them…. Basically it’s the difference in hanging your next step at belly button height verses shoulder or chin height

Also depends on how high you want to go and I agree it also depends on if you want to use aider. Also HOW you want to pack/carry the stick. Also you can incorporate a platform on top of the top stick too. I used a set of XOP with a DIY platform on the top and it worked great.

I also stand on bottom step as well like @Rutman and @Fl Canopy Stalker. I do not use aiders on my second, third or fourth stick but do for my first stick. I do have the benefit of being tall (6’5), so my spacing is pretty good due to being able to take longer steps. I’m able to use my versa button exactly at my forehead as a measurement every time to know my step spacing (given the tree allows for it of course).

Yeah even when I use an aider. The top of the stick is still below my knee. I do only use a single step cable aider or a versa aider. If you are using a multistep aider then I can see needing to be on the top of stick. But this works for me

Just weighed my XOP sticks with cam lock straps. 3# each. Going to really notice difference in 4 to 5 sticks.
