Ontario weather forecast for Oct 1-2 65 degrees... wow that is hot... or hot for October in Ontario .Better stay home opening week:blush:

I don't know how you do it in the heat. I'll probably start the week after next. I get sweaty just thinking about being outside now. Besides, season goes till mid-Feb.

If you put up with the weather, some of the best hunting can be in September. The deer aren't pressured and most guys are still staying at home because it's hot. The deer are still out there!

I preach this every year to the same group of guys. They won't listen. Of course it is a million degrees in Georgia during September but the deer don't care.

Our season opens Sept 23rd which is also my wife's birthday. That doesn't work well!

I have permission on one 40 acre property and the owner told me tonight there is 12-14 point buck walking through his yard these days.

I absolutely agree. Hunt SMART and it can pay off early! I have come to love early season more than the rut in the last five years. My success rates are much higher!

My anniversary is Oct 3. That's been opening weekend of hunting season my whole life, except for dove and teal. I never missed opening weekend, except the wedding weekend. Only because it was the only weekend the priest had available for 6 months. Had some mad friends at my wedding and told me I was crazy. That for the rest of my life I can forget hunting opening weekend. Since, I've been on a few out of state hunts that weekend. She knew what she was getting into when we were dating. I didn't try to pull the wool over her eyes. Oct 3 is just a date. You can celebrate your anniversary days before if you have too. You can't start hunting season earlier. Lol

I agree man way to many. As you know are state has its own agenda and they are letting things get out of control. Soon our bear population will be a grave problem but we still can't hunt them. As far as yotes go they need to be culled to some sort of balanced level. I guess its up to us hunters to do what needs to be.

Ya , I do not understand not opening a bear season here, they are everywhere. Other hunters are saying the same that I talk to here in southern CT.

Same here. I think in the last 5 years I've killed a buck in September or October every year, and only one of those years did I kill one during November. I'm in a rut rut!

I like the first two weeks of the season, and the two weeks before rut is in full swing.

Early season because the deer are at their easiest to pattern for me because of lower pressure. Pre-rut because deer seem to respond better to calls. Once rut is in full swing, they either don't respond because they're holding tight to a hot doe, or they've been grunted at so much they run the opposite direction.

For the style of hunting where I'm playing chess with deer, i'd rather them act like old men stuck in their ways over acting like lusty teenagers butt sniffin'...

Lol I haven't killed a buck in two seasons now because i have become picky chasing a giant here and there but just couldn't seal the deal.

Well had the opportunity today to get on the board for team 8 but I chose to pass on a decent looking 5pt and a spike that had the biggest body I have seen in person. That thing had tiny spikes about 6-7 inches but his body was well over 200lbs. Damn thing looked like a deer sausage lol

Planned on going out this evening for a couple of hours after work on some private land I hunt. Was checking out a new spot and stepped in a yellow jackets nest while stepping over a log in some thick stuff. Needless to say, over 20 stings later from head down to shins, my night was called short. Probably scared away everything in the woods doing yellow jacket Kung fu anyway!

Glad you're ok.

Surefire way to convince people you're bonkers is to let them see you from a long way off trying to get away from a bee.
