Live from the tree 2017 version

Enjoying living vicariously through you all posting here. My season won't start until later this month. I'm 0-2 on opening days. Lost my lease that was an hour from my house on JULY 31 when property sold and new owners never replied to calls and e-mails. The guy whose name was on the lease had been contracted for over 20 years. Fortunately I have a lease in VA and this weekend is opener but schedule isn't cooperating and weather looks to be bad from Nate. Was going to take a couple days off next week but now I am scheduled for a kidney stone removal Thursday. NOT how I planned this year to go. The good news is I have 150 hours of unused vacation so my rut hunting should be frequent at least.

Opening day of Archery in VA. Slow so far but enjoying the view from 20 ft. Good luck to everyone out there this morning.

Thought I'd have the whole weekend to hunt but looks like the hurricane got some pep in its step and rains will start after lunch. Looking like a wasted trip to the camp. Seen one slipping through the pines at 1st light but couldn't tell what it was. Just seen legs moving. 1st time trying out a webbing bridge. Think I might stick with it. I'll give it another hour in the tree. Hoping the storm coming gets them moving before it hits.

I sat yesterday morning, the deer were moving early just not past me :) I was planning on an afternoon sit, but it was too hot and humid for me. I like to keep the family happy this early in the season so I can piss them off later :) I find it super hard to keep the wife happy during deer season! Little does she understand that I would hunt everyday and I don't because I do not want her to think that I prefer the comfort of a tree over her ;)

Hopefully this weekend we can get team 7 on the board!!

I fight the same battle every year. Keep the hunting to a minimum in October and go crazy the first two weeks of November.

No more deer sighting this morning. Hadn't hunted this corner of the farm before. Kinda out of the way spot. Deer definitely been hammering that one white oak there but no buck sign. Will leave this spot for now and maybe check back closer to the rut as the does are bedding in the area. That was my first hunt in a saddle. Definitely nicer to pack in. Comfort level was decent. Feels like I shift around a bit more than my Millinium m100u. Have 4 modified 2 step Helium sticks with 2 step aiders on each. Going to just haul 3 sticks til the leaves drop. 3 will get me 20' pretty easily. 4 is just almost to high in the canopy for early unless the timber is pretty old growth.

@pilgrimhunter it takes awhile to get your body in "Saddle Shape". Once your legs and hips get used to it, you'll feel the comfort level go up. It's kind of like asking someone brand new to hunting to sit still in a little lock-on stand for the first time. They'll be uncomfortable and find it hard to keep still. It comes with time.

First sit in the kestrel ... climbed up at 3:45 and will be here until dark. Really warm 75 degrees, already questioning this decision lol. Amazing how something so small can feel so safe and comfortable.

Round 2 of opening day. Climbed a difficult tree to say the least but had to hunt this side of the field due to the wind. Saw a nice 8 in here last weekend. See if he shows up tonight.

@g2outdoors I bow hunted from loc on stands for years before I bought my first climber. When I quit using them I was still spending more time standing than sitting.

Had a nice 8 come out 20 min to dark at 90 yrds, made his way within 40 yards but wouldn't give me a clean shot. He was bedded in the same location as last week. Didn't spook him, going to try him again Monday afternoon if the wind cooperates.

Had a small 8 come in that I call patches. (He has some white paint splotches on his hip and flank area. Once the coyote stared up this morning, he was gone.

That moment when.....

You watch the weather and decide to call it quites before the storm comes, but you take the time to preset a stand for next time before you leave. Then you go home and watch the rain on radar go around your hunting area and to top it off, your mobile cam pours salt on your wounds.
