Cold front hits tomorrow, but I can’t hit the woods :-(
Hopefully I can hit a cold front in the next few weeks!

I went yesterday and got rained out. I failed to look at the weather and at 1800 the bottom fell out. Not a big deal if you're in a preset stand without camera gear. But I had all my film stuff and was hunting on spurs. I chose not to rappel down. I was nervous about the wet rope.

I didn't use my spurs, xop hand climber and a preset srt, was soaked and chilly, but everything was safe! Don't think they were moving around much today.

Back out this evening. Rained cleared out this morning so I am hoping They might move. Sitting in a narrow strip of Hardwoods overlooking a brushy creek bottom. I know there is a nice buck using this area. Kind of an overlooked corner no one hunts. Scouted it out post season and found few good beds with rubs right beside.

That looks like a postcard!

Just a spike tonight. I snuck into the edge of a swamp behind my house. This used to be my honey hole but dudes caught on .... been a few years. I have to say the kestrel is 100% the real deal.
Anyone add suspenders? Like my pants it wants to ride down while I walk.

You don't see the neighbors house 80 yards behind me. . Did seethe buck I came in after. Stayed 60 yards out for the last 30 minutes. He is just sitting under the one tree munching acorns. Got dark on me.... I will return. Here's a pic I took through my binos of him about 6 weeks ago. Definitely same buck tonight.

I've got to hand it to you guys that have been out hunting in the heat we've experienced the last few weeks. I've been out 3 times and it's not any fun and it's been cooler here than many of the places you guys have been hunting.
Walking out to my tree while wearing a camo Speedo and my TL saddle (which kind of looks like a diaper) makes a guy feel a little less manly. Man I hope it cools down soon.

Haha. Not a good mental picture! It was muggy as all get out here. Can't imagine what it was like like farther south. Took it slow but I was still wringing wet by the time I was set up. I too hope it cools off soon. Would much rather bundle up.

Oh forgot to mention the Mamma bear and her 2 cubs that my brother(s) and I spooked walking home after setting up a few stands yesterday. It was pretty cool and I'm glad I wasn't my myself, closest I've ever been to a wild black bear let alone 3! Oh and none of us had any weapons, THAT won't happen again!

One of the cubs started climbing a tree while the other cub ran off, Mamma just looked at us as if deciding if we looked like dinner, then walked after the first cub with the second in tow.

Gotta zoom in the photo isn't great but at least I got one, lol. Mamma on the left and cub 2 on the right just got down from the tree.

Set up yesterday evening on the 8pt I have been seeing. Wind was perfect, thermals in my favor but Muggy. Had to sit on the ground to be in the right place. Using SitDrag as intended.. imagine that... Thermacell cooking. No deer moving, woods were quiet.

If you get the backrest adjusted right you can throw it over a shoulder to help keep the kestrel up. I've started strapping mine to my pack instead of wearing it in. It's just too hot right now to have any extra layers anywhere you don't have to. Had an hour and a half drive home last time I wore it out the woods. My bottom was still wet when I got home.

That will solve the bridge dangling issue as well. I will give it a shot. Thanks, I walked out with the kestrel over my shoulder last night. Too dang humid, I was a sweaty mess leaving the woods

Smoke pole season right now. Absolutely no desire to set up in 85 degrees and high humidity. I'm thinking I'm finally going to break loose next week. I'm in a wedding Saturday, been on-call this week. May do Thursday if the humidity breaks.

I did stand ten yards from a shooter yesterday though. I was walking around one of our work sites checking the sign and acorn crop when he stood up ten feet away. He took a couple hops and stood looking at me. I love being that close to a big buck. The place is filthy with deer. Houses, broken wooded patches, marsh.....pretty much deer heaven.

I couldn't be more more frustrated and upset at the moment. I shot the biggest buck I have ever seen and spent 4 hours looking for him and couldn't find him. Now I have to go to work and not sure I can get back out there before dark.

This buck surprised me coming from the down wind direction. He walked almost to the base of my tree. I had to do everything perfectly to get my bow and draw. I was at full draw for quite some time but he was walking towards my tree head on. I almost took a shot straight down into his vitals but I thought that was a bad idea. He looked up and saw me. He spooked and ran to about 21 yards. I made "the noise" and he stopped. I let the arrow go. It felt good and sounded good. He was quartering away and I was aiming for his opposite shoulder. It felt like such a good shot. His front legs were collapsing as he sprinted away.

I waited 30 mins and rapelled down. Went to where he was standing and my arrow was stuck in the ground, broken off at 24" and blood on all of the remaining arrow. But no blood at the site of impact. Went into a thicket where he disappeared and found one good spot of blood that looked good but it wasn't frothy. I never found any more blood and spent 4 hours walking as much of the 40 acres as I could before coming home to get ready for work.

In the course of which I lost two arrows with my broadheads on them.

Don't give up, man. I betcha he's dead and you just have to find him. Are there any blood tracking dog handlers in your area? They can be amazing. Even help from a couple of buddies - sometimes you only need one more drop of blood to point you in the right direction.

Here's a website for trackers so you can see if there's one in your area:
https://www.unitedbloodtrackers.org/find-a-tracker/

Good luck. I really hope you find him!

Thanks for info. The one I can get ahold of now isn't able to right now.
