Live from the tree 2017 version

Did an early am sit and it started out terrible. My buddy recommended a spot that he couldn't hunt this year and that I get in nice and early. I think he felt bad for me! I was planning on an early MCDM sit, and set the alarm for 0300....took me forever to get moving and didn't start walking into the woods until 0445, and it took forever to find a tree and start climbing(I bet you can see where this is going). I was at height trimming a few tiny branches and a large deer walked right past me at 15 yards, bow and backpack were still on the ground, kinda surprised me a little, probably because I haven't been seeing %&*#$. So my plan of getting all set up early didn't really work, although I don't think I could have shot him/her anyway because it was still before the legal shooting time. Obviously, I was pretty upset at myself and even though I gave myself plenty of time, I wasn't able to get settled quick enough. Fast forward a few hours and I'm getting cold, my rubber boots were still wet from the day before, and I was about to start climbing down when 3 deer popped up, I think they might have been bedded down about 40 yards away. The two younger ones were running around and playing, it was pretty cool to see, one of them even jumped up on its rear legs shaking hooves at the other. They never got closer than 60 yards but it was good to see something, oh and they were downwind and never really spooked, they just kinda played for a while then wandered off, not in my direction. Unfortunately, I did spook the same group on my way out.

Alright guys, I'm here in the tree tonight. Looking for a doe. Check cam yesterday and it showed doe moving thru here every day! It might not happen til last light.

Back out again also. Trying out an Anderson's sling I picked up on eBay. So far it is pretty decent.
Really wanted to go back to the same place I was earlier in the week but the wind was not quite right and shifting. So I went to farm where it may as well be public land. They will let anyone hunt. Held some nice bucks in the summer but I am guessing they moved on. Am back in the thick stuff where I am guessing no one else goes much. We will see what happens....

Always fun watching Bambi take a nap under my tree.

It's looking like one of those days. Today I set out to be the first time to do a complete set up in the dark on a pre prepped tree. hihohiho off into the woods I go......about eight feet and yep put a stick in my eye. Great just as I planned it. Pushing on one eye dripping I go about 600 yards and I have to cross a ten foot wide clearing by a stream. I get to the other side and eat it. I stepped on one weed that went over the top of my other boot locking my foot down. Boy now I'm in a good mood. I get to my location and find that they brushhogged all the small brush and weeds. That created this small funnel. Between the open hardwoods and patch of pines. Climb the tree reach in my pack and realize I forgot my knee pads. I'm pretty excited. _20171014_075345.JPG

I can handle almost anything... a spec of dirt in my eye and it is all over. The world stops.

lol. been there.

Out again tonight as well. Have the south wind I was bedding to get back to where I saw the nice buck the first of the week. To it very slow setting up to minimize noise. If he came from where I thought he did the other night I am in really tight to his bedding. Hope I didn't push to close.....

IMG_1273.JPG Hunted yesterday evening and this morning at Ft Stewart. Home of saddlepalooza 2018 and the famous outdoors host g2. Yesterday was a bust. This morning I had several deer around this morning. Then this little eight point came in downwind. He smelled me stomped a couple times turned to leave and I decided to make him stay.

I carry antihistamine eye drops when I hunt. If I get something in my eye there is no way I'll sit still, so I can relate!

Stick in eye...corneal abrasions, while it could be worse, are no fun.

I trimmed the branches for my path to my spot everywhere but the beginning so others wouldn't see it. I guess I'm the one that didn't see the small branch either.
