@skell isn't it so much more fun than a tree stand?
I really enjoyed it. I felt like the ability to slowly sway around the tree kept me more attentive. Definitely easier to monitor 360°. And the ability to keep the tree between you and the deer is fantastic.

2 things I need/want for next time...
1. Knee pads
2. Back support strap

I managed without, but think they would just increase comfort.

@skell I agree with the knee pads. Some guys love the back support so you should definitely check it out. I don't use one unless I'm sitting a really long time.

My first day afield was a bust.
I sat the morning on top of a 70 foot cliff with a spotting scope looking out over 60-70 acres of 5-8 foot tall ragweek/grasses. I figured with a perfect birds eye over THAT much area with perfect bedding cover would yield some sightings....
I was wrong. A 400 yard view in a 180° arc and not a single deer sighted. I did see 4 river otters though, which are very rare around here. The highlight of the morning was when an American kestrel almost landed on me before choosing to perch on a neighboring limb instead.

My first afternoon option was a failure, as the oaks didn’t produce acorns this year, the second spot was a failure because the water level wasn’t right to reach the location in the canoe.
With an odd north wind, I didn’t have many setup options that were previously scouted, so I decided not to bushwhack into a good area when I was stinky and frustrated. Figured I will go again later this week when I’m fresh.

This is why I've never tried anything besides an original TS. I love the back support and ability to "swing" all the way around a tree with knee pads. Comfort at every angle.

EricS, good job.......
Thanks. I would like to say it was scouting or aerial photos but literally left the campground with no clue where to go. Saw a bigger 8 and doe on the side of the highway and looked at the map and there was a walking trail that went in a couple hundred yards behind them. Snuck in setup and it worked out. I try to be good but will take lucky when it puts one on the ground.
I was waiting on a picture of a huge buck from Missouri.

Well, I was able to sneak in an am sit this morning, was cooler finally and there was a little rain that stopped around 0630, I snuck in around 0500, found a good tree and was all settled around 6, I think. The rain was nice as it helped me sneak in! Right around 0655, with sunset at 0719, I saw a deer walk right under me, by the time I grabbed my bow and swung to the other side of the tree, I couldn't even find it, lol. It was legal shooting time but still a little too dark IMHO. Fast forward about 0800, I had a single doe, run a small circle around me, disappear into some brush then come right back to me and she sat and ate some leaves off of a few branches that I had trimmed on my way up, it was pretty cool, I wasn't sure I could take a shot since it was straight down, so I just kinda watched, while trying to get into a better position, I think I either made a little noise or she saw my movement cause she just vanished. The craziest part to me was how quiet she was the whole time, actually both of em, never even made a sound, if I didn't see them, I never would have known they were there. Amazing how quiet they can be, it was a great sit, but ofc I was bummed I couldn't get a shot and I got busted. The worse part, is I was on the far side of the tree when she did that circle and moved over to my platform thinking I needed to be ready to move in any direction when I was in the right spot all along ;(

Hey, I'll try not to complain, I was able to sneak in an am sit on a Monday morning, although the boss hen wasn't that happy with me this evening, crap, lol.

Did not do so well in MO. Did kinda get in the deer on the last afternoon but we are heading back in 2 or 3 weeks. Congrats on your deer.

Hunted a bedding funnel last night and some 9-10 deer. Drew back on a doe but then a spike came and bumped her and she whipped right past my shooting lane not offering a shot.

Had a nice matriarch doe at 25 yards but I was hesitant to try an offside shot as I felt I couldn't get away with that much movement. After she left I put myself in position and sure enough I could have made the shot... Uhg.

Sitting in a tree with my wonderful wife! Not often we get to go out hunting together but we got babysitters for the kids tonight. Went back to an old faithful producing stand tonight. She is in a hang on and me in the saddle. Just fun to be out together. If a for comes in range it is in danger tonight.

Had my best setup and tear down as far as one aider climbing and rapelling down. Very good stuff. Had a little spike walk by directly under me. I had dropped a glove from my hanging position and he actually stepped right over it. Never missed a beat. I wouldn't have shot at him anyway. My big boy didn't show up but I don't think they were moving a whole lot this morning.

Good things:

Extra tree tether is such a good idea. Long overdue.

Didn't spook anything or have any blow at me upon entrance and setup.

Ernie's platform great. I still need to work with it some and go to the stepp knot.
