Not a bad way to end a season. Saw tons of deer this afternoon six of which being bucks. Got these two halfway up the tree.

Well, i didn’t hunt today, but I did a little work on my parent’s place. The old well hadn’t been used in probably 20 years, and had cedars, greenbrier, grapevines, and black locust grown around it so thick you couldn’t even tell there was ever a well there.
After a few hours of cutting and trimming it finally came into view. I hope to build a new deck on the top, mortar the outside, and stick a solar powered pump in it. There is a 1” poly pipe buried from the well to one of the ponds and I will let the solar pump just trickle pump throughout the day over to the pond.

Aside from a little debris from the lid of the well, the water was crystal clear.

No one can seem to remember how deep it is, so I will have to climb down there and clean it out till I hit bottom to know for sure.

Headed down to the river bottom again this afternoon. Moved about 60 yds down the side of the hill for a different view. As soon as I got to the tree 6 does and a small buck walk by right where I want them to. One other doe came from same place but walked up the hill close by.

Right towards dark I hear something to my right. It's a nice buck standing at 50 yards and he had me pegged. I SLOWLY pull the gun up but can't find him in the scope. I pull my head up then back to the gun. Once I get him in the scope he bolts.

That was exciting!

One more day of the season left.

Well decided to go one last day. Had a buddy wanting to hunt so took him and put him on some deer. Wasn’t planing on taking another one but heard him shoot and figured I might as well since it sounded like I was bringing the 4 wheeler in anyway. Good thing I did because he missed and needed the meat.

Y’all can have these cold days. Nothing works. Start up bike and throttle cable is froze up. Get to 1st gate and lock is froze up. Get to 2nd gate, it’s froze up. Get to ground blind and zipper is froze up. Waiting on day light and heated runs out of gas . Then my son says let’s go back to camp. That got my blood boiling so I don’t need the heater now. Told him he gonna tough it out. This isn’t a play station game.

Out for my final attempt of this season. Sitting a 5 inch diameter tree in a spot I've looked at many times, but could never figure out how to hunt with a conventional stand. The saddle wins me over a little more every time I use it.

Sure would like some more burger for the freezer (hint hint deer).

Well, the hunt was what I wanted and what I didn't want...had a young button buck come in alone. Last chance so no being picky. Gave me a perfect broadside at 17 yards. I was only 10 ft up. Which matters because I hit him high. Would have better if I had been at my normal 20 ft up.

He ran 10 yards, crashed. Got up, ran 15 yards back, crashed. Laid there for a few minutes. Got up, took some wobbly steps. Stopped for a minute. Took a few more wobbly steps. Stopped for a minute. I watched this for 10-15 minutes. I let him get out of sight so I could sneak down and back out.

The second crash site was very close to my tree. I grabbed my arrow and snapped this pic. I was surprised by the amount of blood given the fact I didn't see him expire.
Tough decision to wait, but I'll be after him in the morning. Hopefully the coyotes don't do too much damage. Red circle is 2nd crash site (where the other pic was taken). Blue arrow is the trail he wobbled away on.

Well, I didn’t see anything this morning. It was 16° when I left the truck this morning, and these southern deer weren’t moving. I saw didly squat. I get to sit this evening and tomorrow morning and then my season is done.

A nice buck I call “Jr” has been showing up on camera either a day before I hunt, or a day after I hunt for a few weeks now... he is taunting me. Hopefully he slips up in the next 24 hours!

It's great to be back in a tree! I'm back in VA, nice warm spell, it is 68 right now lol, I don't think I've broken a sweat climbing in a while. Cold snap tomorrow hoping to be back out here, I'm trying to hunt/scout areas I haven't touched this year. I can't shoot a buck, am hoping for some does to fill the freezer!
