Live from the tree 2017 version

@g2outdoors it wasn't funny. My cell was pretty much dead and I had to call my wife and let her know I would be late and may not have a cell to call her. After talking her out of mobilizing the national guard it only took a few minutes to get back on track.
@MCDM Kill them all. You will never succeed but don't feel bad about trying.

Amen!!!! Shoot every one you see.

Had the biggest buck I've seen in GA at 35 yards (I think) and I couldn't seal the deal. I'll tell the story tomorrow. I'm too much of a sad panda to type it out right now.

You kind look like a panda in that suit. You rockin the scentlok savanna crosshair coverall?

@g2outdoors, I can't imagine wearing that coverall suit like that in that heat. Have you tried any of their other stuff? I use a pair of light pants, a light lone sleeve shirt, ballcap, lightweight head/face cover and lightweight shooter gloves. Don't get me wrong, I'm still sweating like crazy in the heat. But you just look like you are all wrapped up like a hot tamale.

@redsquirrel my thoughts exactly if we are sweating this far north im sure @g2outdoors is drenched. Hats off man remember to stay hydrated but im sure you got that covered. Kudos to all those venturing out in this crazy early season heat. It has been slow for me and after 33 hours in the tree with the storm coming im taking the next two days off to recoop and hit em hard on Thursday after the storm moves out.

I didn't want to buy another set, so I'm using the Savannah Coverall. Honestly though, I think scent control in the early season is impossible. I could be totally naked, except for my thermacell and I would still sweat the entire time. They have to be able to smell that.

I'll look at some of their lightweight stuff. Anyone have any lightweight Scentlok they want to sell? Size M.

Negative. I just bought my first piece of Scdent Lok clothing. A hat/facemask combo. Needless to say I can feel my wallet shrinking...
I was looking at that coverall, thought thatd be a good route to go to just cover everything and layer underneath. You like it?

@red2delta Oh I love it. When I was up north I wore it on every single hunt. In the early season, that was the only thing I needed. When it got cold, I used good base layers underneath and a light jacket. When it got really cold, I'd layer my heavy non-scentlok stuff (washed in scent free detergent and stored in an air-tight container) on top. The Savannah coveralls are SUPER versatile. I'm a big fan.

@g2outdoors I was going to ask you if you thought the scentlok was worth it in this heat. I've always tried to hunt the wind. Unless there is a storm moving in the mornings and evenings its about impossible to get a steady wind. You can get in the stand at 3 and have a steady wind but then during the last hour of light it will change 4 times

That is all a bummer for sure. It sounds like you have too much going on! I would pick one climbing method and stick to it for now. That way you will be super comfortable with it! Better to be a master of one trade than a jack of all right now.

While my platform is a climbing method, I don't think that means I have too much going on. I think my main problem isn't actually climbing the tree is deciding what to climb. I've setup a few trees with 550 cord(for SRT) thinking they are in a good location and don't realize how much they suck until I'm up in the tree, possibly screwing up a sit.

I honestly think it all comes down to experience, I'm hunting all new terrain and was only able to do limited scouting(Hopefully I'll have a few years here, but like g2, we move all of the time) I'll get there just gonna take a little more work!

Start looking towards the end of the season. I stock up starting then and into the offseason. I will buy the normally $100 pieces for 30 or 40 bucks.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I think it helps for sure, but I don't believe that it's as effective as when I'm not sweating heavily.

I'm still gonna wear it. Plus I'm a big believer that it helps during the rut when they can come from anywhere.

I do this as well. I know I'm gonna hunt each year and my weight is about the same so I figure I might as well save a good bit of money. Therefore I just buy at the end of the year preparing for next.

Quick question for anyone using the GriGri as seen in the picture for the connection to the tree tether. Isn't there Noise with the Carabiner to GriGri connection? I would be astonished if it's truly dead silent? I want to buy one, but that's a big worry at this point chasing mature deer with a bow..thanks for any help!

Everyone I know is only using the grigri2 to descend, so they're hooking it up after the hunt is over. There was a thread discussing tying it off to hunt with if that is what you are referring, but I'm not sure if anyone is doing that.

The thing about the grigri for hanging off of if you tie it off is its size. The carabiner to metal connection is still there in the ropeman or any ascender, but you are putting constant pressure on it so it doesn't make noise. I also have wrapped my carabiner in self adhesive wrap tape to help quiet it down but the risk for noise is greatest when setting it up and breaking it down.

Makes sense to me thank you! Maybe the picture @Erniepower posted was deceiving. It looks like he was using it for his hunting setup and not the descend but I could be wrong..

If you can show which pic I can clarify for you, I'm just not sure what you're looking at!
