LW Seat platform with Whoopie Sling attachment

The aluminum bar is same price as XOP I beam. Is there that much weight savings? Also since I am a little mechanically challenged what are you cutting the aluminum with and can you use a regular hand drill to make the holes? Also I wonder instead of making and using a whoopee sling I wonder if a nylon strap would work. I have a couple stabilizer straps from 3rd hand archery that could do the same thing but I am not sure the strength rating.
That piece is way overpriced. A 12" piece of 6061 T6 with those dimensions should only run you about $3-4.

I don't have any experience with the XOP I beam. If you can shorten the beam without compromising it's structural integrity, I would say go with the i-beam. That way you don't have to worry about reinforcing your aluminum tube. On the other hand, the aluminum is apparently a lot cheaper (according to BB) and reinforcing it is pretty easy.

As far as working with the aluminum tubing, it's pretty easy. I cut it to length with a regular old hacksaw and drilled the holes with a Dewalt hand drill. No special tools required at all. Finally, give it a quick camo job with a rattle can or use some camo tape to dull the shine. It's actually a pretty simple process. The hardest part is finding a seat!

The price must have changed, or maybe I linked to a different product. I paid about $12. That was the first time I had ever bought aluminum tubing, so I didn't really know either way.

I started out with approximately 9-10 feet of rope. That number is pretty fluid and you can shorten or lengthen it if you like.

Nice video G2. Im going to go this route but will splice the one side on the platform so it pernament and bypass the larkshead and use a stepp knot on the otherside. Is that 1/4" or 5/8 amsteel? I'm also going to make my own brackets one of these days as i don't have the muddy stick brackets.
Infalt's bracket on his prototype sticks look very promising. They may need a little rework after some fatigue analysis but it captures most of what I want in a platform bracket.

Yeah I saw that - I might just ask him to sell me a few we are suppose to do a phone call this week on a TX/OK workshop

Haven't been on the beast much lately, got a pic or a link to his prototypes?

If he does it, let me know. I am a guaranteed attendee.

I don't think you can see the seat? if you are talking about that wicked looking deer rack that is part of the the platform I believe? unless I am looking at it wrong.

And I dont see the brackets on the sticks. The stand looks a bit cheesy with the deer tracks. I hope he sells a bunch, really nice guy.

Interesting, how different are the sticks from what else is out there?

I haven't seen the latest and greatest but based on the last couple of iterations I suspect it is a bracket similar go the stand and a fixed 2 step option similar to the muddy. He's made some lofty claims on weight but I expect the sticks to come in at 2.8 lbs each and stand at 13.5 lbs.

After a second look, you're right. That is the platform...

Hey guys I haven't been on in a while but follow up on this and some of y'all may of done this already.i seen somewhere Dave t broke his bat wing on the seat he's using for platform when hooking up his strap around tree and camming it over. U may wAnt to try a fixed strap like this amsteel rope ideA of one side of stand and a beaner onThe other back to stand. That's what I did real happy w it am the dave t stand

I think the way G2 showed in his video will be OK. I am doing the same on mine and so far there's no sign of anything bending. Most of the pressure is on the main outside "beam" of the platform.

Cant say Id want a carabiner and platform connection due to noise. The Jim Stepp knot works great, if you remember how to tie it while your in the tree. lol
