Make the most out of Cranford EZY® Climb Folding Rope Tree Step

Very cool. I never realized that is how they came. I am surprised there is not more love for the Ezy step. Thx Pete
They are great, but putting enough on to climb all the way up is tedious. I keep a few in my bag when I'm using sticks to get extra height.

The rope that comes on a Cranford step is a whoopie sling, the extension I made is an amsteel dog bone.

I like that little additional rope. I find it somewhat difficult to hook that amsteel sling onto the hook on the step. I think a different rope may be easier in the dark. The piece of dog bone amsteel looks round and not flat which may make it easier.

Here's my way to climb trees with Cranford rope steps. Light weight, compact, and pretty easy. Also one way to try an adjustable aider with climbing sticks and Wild Edge steps at the end of the video.

I have about forty Cranford rope steps. I used them for presets. I don't like to stand on one step with an aider they can twist when I climb to the next step. I have some that the metal hooks have twisted. When used without the aider they work great.I do like your system but it not for me . Great video though.

Yeah, I just wanted to give people some options. I think with the amsteel loop tucked behind the step it shouldn't twist, it seems to be very stable. It does help to have them all in a line so that you are very vertical when climbing.

Hey @BCHunter Did you like this method of climbing that you continued to use it. I have tried it and the only thing I do not like is trying to balance on one foot while I put the next cranford up.

I like it, especially for pre-sets, If I could use screw in steps for that... man this would be awesome. My biggest issue is that in cold weather the rope on the steps is super loud scraping against bark when it tightens and also when you put pressure on the steps. For late season, I don't think anything can beat some sticks that you can get super tight before stepping on them so they don't slide down much when stepping onto them.

When I climb I put 2 steps up and hang the aider off the higher one. That way I can shorten the aider and stand on it and the lower step at the same level when I'm putting on another step.

I still have a couple of the ezy steps. Sold most of them. I did have one of the metal hooks straighten out on me, good thing my linesman belt was on. When using theme they took quiet a bit of time to setup. Also had a bunch of the Ameristeps that I had sold a number of years back, wish I still had those. Just use LW steps now.
