Making a new tether

I have one of those ropes and I would guess it is about 11 mm and will work with a ropeman 1 I use the rope man 1 on 9 mm ultra tech which is not recommended but it works. I am sure that rope is thicker.

Does the ropeman 1 work on this tree strap? I cant seem to find what gauge this rope is ...
If you don't have one of those already and are going to buy it, you can build yourself a much better tree strap for just a few bucks more.

I actually do have it but what rope do you recommend? I am sure I can tie the knots if I follow the instructions on that website some one has posted... animatedknots.com or something.

I'd recommend the 11mm yale bandit for a good safe rope. http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=1901
Put a figure 8 on a bight on one end and a stopper knot on the other. You can pick up an aluminum climbing biner for $10-15 which be much lighter and better than the one on that rope.

Yup there are better ropes. Red is wiser than me for sure But answering the question. Here is a ropeman 1 on ultra tech Samson and HSS rope it works but safety is number one IMG_2369.JPG

The tether sold by new tribes for the aero hunter. I think it is Yale bandit

LOL yeah I am trying to convince my wife that this saddle thing is a safer alternative to my usual set up, I cant be falling or dying too early on in this adventure! I went ahead and ordered 10 ft of it, I hope it is enough with the knots.

And I just went back into this thread like I should have initially and all my questions are already answered, like 12-14 ft of rope ... sorry fellas for repeating

Budgets are often restricted for hunting. If our wives did not challenge us we would have no money left for other necessities

So I went ahead and ordered 10 ft of the yale bandit, then read that I prob should have a bit more. I sent an email to treestuff.com with the order number and asked them to add 2 feet to my order and charge my card or I can cancel and make a new order. Their response was dont worry about it, we will throw in a few extra feet at no charge! Stand up company

They're the best. I can't say enough good things about them. Their orders ship and arrive fast as well.

Do you guys seriously feel like you need all that tensile strength of those big ropes to be safe?

Looking at some math.... lets say figure 8 knots reduce strength 20% (they don't, but lets fudge on the safe side.) If memory serves me correctly working load limit of a line is 10% of it's tensile strength.

I went with 5.5 mm dyneema climbing accessory cord- BlueWater Titan cord. It's tensile is 3100 lbs.
3100 lbs, tie figure 8 knots in it- that's minus 20% tensile strength so that puts our actual tensile to 2480 lbs. 10% of that tensile is safe work load which is of course 248 lbs. I call it good to go!

Sure.... a fall can build tremendous kinetic energy. But in reality how much fall can a saddle hunter that is set up correctly generate? 18" ?? thats a small force multiplier. And YES I want to have good fall protection figured into my life support. But in 10 years of saddle hunting I have never fallen that 18", not once.

Thoughts?
It only takes once.

I made my tether out of last year's tachyon saluting branches. The color blends in way better than the bandit imo. Someone else posted some camo colored rope that looked interesting.

Samson predator is the camo rope. I have no experience with it though
