I just picked up 100 bolts on eBay for $50 shipped. Going to prep trees this winter and leave them in - but only in spots where the tree cannot be logged - I have leased ground

Awesome. What size bolt did you use?

Ok I prep all my trees with ameristep tree steps. I hunt all private and have 20 plus trees prepped now and growing. I have to ask what is SRT climbing ?? Lol sorry for my ignorance. I am going to start using gorilla steps this year as they are thicker and easier to start in the tree. Always looking for more ideas though. As far as bolts you guys are using case hardened right ? Also for softer trees like pine how do they work ? I love pine trees cause I've never been picked off in on. So much cover.

Just remember a couple things about leaving steps in the tree.
1 is the tree sometimes rots around the threads in only 1 year. Then they can pull out. I had it happen on ground level step one time.
The other issue is fast growing trees. We prepped cottonwood (?I think ) a few years ago in March. By November the tree grew so much we had a lot of trouble unscrewing the steps. 1 piece steps are more troublesome than 2 piece...but they're cheaper.
