My DIY ultra-light stick build....

How much $ do you have in those sticks? What can a guy realistically expect to spend on a set?

Close guess?
$60 lone wolf stand offs
$25 ish 6’ 1’ square tube
$15 ish 6’ 3/16 angle
$20 ish DIY Versa button misc bolts
So $120 ish on the cheap.
+++ cost of aluminum welding if you cannot DIY it’s not cheap around here.
Best guess purely speculation

Welding is less than $50 here for 4 sticks. That is the estimate I was given unless you can get your dad to do it.

Excellent. There are only a handful of people that I really enjoy following and that sway me to be more open minded and to try new things. Fling is one of those few people. Everything he posts, videos and posts, clearly demonstrates he is not seeking the limelight but actually has put a lot of thought into and sharing what he has found. When he posts something I always pay attention because I know I will learn something of value from him. And the fact that he does it with class and humility speaks volumes. Thanks for yet another great demonstration on a DIY stick!

I’d say $130ish all together. Welding was free so that helps. The LW standoff’s were the most expensive parts

It would be worth a try! I’m not sure how much you weigh, but I think I could have used 1/8 and been ok. The 3/16 feels rock solid even when bouncing on them

I weigh 200 pounds. I guess I will try the 1/8 and just not trim the step much. I like how you notched the stick though. It allows the sticks to stack nice and tight. I can see me notching the angle at least half way to accommodate stacking. I love the simplicity.

Awesome looking steps! Whats the dimensions on the steps aluminum angle? 2"x2", 2"x3"? I would love to build some here at work.

They look great @flinginairos!

Are they 1/16" tubing? I would not drill out the 1/16" tubing if they are. In my experiments the 1/16" tubing is very delicate. I bent it just by over tightening some bolts.

@flinginairos
I was wondering if those amsteel aiders are just as easy to climb as your old black diamond multistep aiders. I am debating making a 5 or 6 step aider for a 12 inch stick like yours. I have never had a problem climbing with the black diamond aider. Is it just as easy with the amsteel aider.

I like how light and compact they are. I would probably make one and take it up the tree like @DaveT1963 does.

Yep every bit as easy! I am sold on the Amsteel aider. Just can’t beat the weight of them

No video on it yet. I'll try to get a video of the new sticks and aider in action.
Wasn't there something on how to make the aider?
Also, what did the sticks cost you to make? You mentioned that you could have almost bought them for what it cost to make?

I have a thread on here about the aider from last week. The sticks cost around $130 to make so the cost isn't too bad when you compare to whats available now.
