New Mathews Triax - Love it!

The Triax, with its huge cams, has the same overall length as my older 31” ata bow. String angle is not an issue.
 
Triax update..... some how I managed to have a 2 weeks off from work so it was a great time to tweek my saddle gear. Making a few changes for next year to lighten and improve my setup. The triax is part of those changes because of its size and using the same cams as the halon. Any way I had a chance to practice with my halon , triax and no cam. Have not been able to compare all 3 at the same time since I have owned them. I hear a lot of guys comment on the string angle of the triax ....... must say it’s not a big deal at all. The bow is sooooo dead in the hand it is amazing. Shot the triax ...... picked up the halon to compare and honestly thought something was wrong with my halon. For the first time I noticed hand shock in the halon. Like some thing was lose on the bow , however it was not. If u looking for a new bow just go shoot one bring your old bow to compare....... I know I was impressed. I’m shooting 412 grain arrow set up maxim red sd with 12% F.O.C. and have no problems out to 80 yards ( about 10” group). Just in all fairness I do find the triax is not as forgiving as the halon or no cam. At 40 yards I’m grouping 1-2 “ with it. So I’m a happy camper!!!!!!
 
Not really sure I will look tonight. Bow shop recommended it. I sighted in 20 and 30 yard pin then all the rest are on. I think it was a trophy ridge or something like that.

results. I cannot believe how well I shoot this bow. I am already shooting 3 inch groups at 30 yards (probably below average for most) but for a guy that has only shot trad I am really impressed with this bow. I do struggle with the physical weight and will have to build my bow arm/shoulder muscles up so I can hold it longer and more steady.

Now here is the thing that blows me away - this thing is almost as quiet as many of the longbows I have shot. Unbelievable.

I am fully planning on hunting this year with it - as well as my trad bow on some set ups - but just wanted to let folks know how awesome this bow is performing in a novice's hands......

what I like about this bow: ultra accurate, ease of drawing, absolutely dead in the hand, ultra quiet, no vibration, it is super short/easy to maneuver.

Cons: physical weight with all the bells/whistles added - to be expected when I came from longbows primarily.


The reason why I bought this was I was starting to have some shoulder and elbow issues and wanted to remain in the game as long as I can. most of my injuries were due to old weight lifting injuries. But I am slowly falling in love with how easy this thing is to make and execute an accurate shot. I have not ventured out in the woods yet but I fully plan on practicing out to 100 years. I will NEVER shoot at an animal past 35-40 yards as I don't think it is ethical with a living animal that moves. Just my opinion there folks. But I do believe practicing at long ranges helps with form and consistency at shorter ranges. I know it does with trad bows.

Anyway - two thumbs up for this excellent bow.

Now you compound shooters help me pick out the right broadhead. I am shooting max red 250s and 125 grain field points. I will NOT use an expandable head so fixed blade is where I am looking. Been looking at Exodus and slick tricks - but could use some advice from more experienced compound hunters.

I have a Triax as well. Mine is set up at 30" draw, 70# with 75% let off. Personally I think it is an amazing bow. I went with the Tooth of the arrow 1" 125 grain broadheads. The cool thing is you can order practice heads(which are the same as the actual heads just not sharpened). Shoot and tune with the practice heads and once season comes just sharpen them and go to town. Or order new ones lol. I have been shooting them out to 40 yards with now problem.

I went with the Triax also cause of its compactness. I'm trying to keep it lite and only have my sights and rest on it. I really struggled with torqueing the bow so i went on AT and found that a lot of people were switching the grip to a high wrist torqueless grip. I put on a Dave's torqueless brand and have to say I rarely even think of hand position now. Oh I forgot to add I'm shooting 29 1/2" draw at 61lbs currently and a lite arrow.
 
@DaveT1963 just catching up on this thread.

I also shoot the sameTrophy Ridge on my Hel M. Very simple to set up.

I see you had the bow set up for 125 field points. Did you buy 100 grain Broad Heads? If so, you may need to tune or have the bow tuned for the 100 grain. Another thing, once you have 200 - 300 arrows through it the bow needs to be tuned again as the string settles in.
 
I bought a Triax in January. Just sold it 2 weeks ago. Wasn't very forgiving and just couldn't shoot consistent with it. Picked up a Bowtech Realm and what a world of difference. It's also a smaller bow but I can drive tacks with it and it's just about as fast as the Triax was and it's on the comfort setting. Plus the realm has a longer BH which helps a ton. But the Triax was dead in the hand at the shot where the realm had a tiny bit of vibe, but a stabilizer takes it away. And I'm a Mathews guy lol
 
Bows are like cars or trucks . What feels good to one person may not feel good to another. You have to go with what feels right for you. Bowtech and Mathews both make awesome bows and so do alot of other bow companies.
 
Great bow, shot one at my local shop. Crazy quiet and vibration free. I will hold off a couple more years, I think. Still love my Mathews Chill.

As for broadheads I use Rage on whitetail, but when I elk hunt I use fixed. I have had great success with Slick Tricks. Accurate, easy to tune, and super sharp.

Love the Rage and the Slick Trick is awesome. Killed my two biggest buck with Slick Tricks and they didn't go far . One went 10 yards and the other went 20 yards. I also like Ramcats you sure try them.
