New Year's Hunting resolutions

Add me to the list of those going to scout more. In September I lost permission to hunt all three of my hunting properties two days before the season. (Farmer decided leasing the hunting land was just to lucrative) This meant I spent the season running and gunning public land, I won't be spending another season doing that. I wanna set up at least 10 spots on different public lands located within 45 mins from my home.

Hopefully gonna purchase some Helium sticks (if they become available) and mod them to be as light as possible. (Nothing can penetrate a tree more than a 1/2 inch on Indiana public lands, so no screw in tree steps or tree bolts)

Increase my fitness- I am in decent shape because the military requires it, but hunting ain't push-ups and sit-ups, followed by a 2 mile run. I need more endurance- I'll be ruck marching and running a lot more.

I wanna increase my organization- I learned the importance of being organized this season. Down to the location of your doe bleat. You should be able to locate everything without actually looking at it.

climb more and shoot more from saddle- I wanna be completely fluid when it comes to climbing with sticks and my evo (maybe sit drag if I decide to switch). I've gotten better but not nearly as smooth as I want to be. I'm comfortable with shooting from the saddle, but practice.

Read John's book again- I have a lot of book marks in the book but I want a better understanding-especially when it comes to scouting. In the past I have always just "waited" instead of hunting. Intensive scouting is new to me and I have a lot to learn about reading terrain and deer. There's a few pieces of public land I have never stepped on and I'll need all the help I can get.

Contribute more to Saddlehunter.com- I've noticed everyone has different insight for every problem and there are many solutions. Sooner or later I might have the solution.

I would suggest adding aiders to each stick. This is how I use my Lone Wolf sticks and they work very well. If you're looking for lightweight, some guys are having great success with the One-Stick method.

I LOVE INDIANA. I got my best buck there.

I'm a stickler for this. Everything has a home and I never change my setup unless I find a new way to do something.

I agree. The more input the better. We all benefit!

This is a great thread!! My goals are to add more presets to my public and private lands. I also plan to get a little more in shape since i will be tring to climb with spurs. I am also going to attempt to scout some areas that I have not been in for a long time and get some sets in there as well. One other goal will also be to update alot of my clothing to scentlok and hecs as I have had little experience with both products but the limited experience has produced great results and has made me a believer.

New Years resolutions...

1.) Loose some weight
2.) Become younger
3.) Get better looking.

Okay, I know only one of those is possible. I need to loose some weight. I know I can't get younger and I don't see how I could possibly become better looking!! :sunglasses:

Anyway, I started yesterday by doing some scouting and even moved a stand (I'll be hunting from my saddle once the spot gets prepped). Found a couple of nice rubs in the are I hadn't noticed during the season.

This one surprised me at how high it was. It nearly came up to my shoulders and I'm 6'. You can see the height of the old rub on the the tree below the new rub. Come on October. 2017!!

I've gone from permission on 127 acres to just shy of 1,000. Plus the 1,300 acres of public land five miles away I've never hunted so scouting is high on the list.
Buy, hang, practice and prep for a saddle is number one. I also need to get the confidence in my shooting form back. I've had some shoulder rotation problems after my second shoulder was fixed and sometimes send an arrow off mark when I practice beyond 60 yards. So I need to get back into the 80-90 yard practices making my 20-30 yard shots easy.

I tried the One stick method, but the Blake's hitch was a hindrance. I now have the ropeman combined with the muddy pro stick which will make it much easier and I plan to try it again. I am just worried about the noise it'll make, i just couldn't keep it quiet. I am guessing I just need to slow down a bit.

I'm a big fan of Indiana as well. I am in area known for some decent bucks and plenty of Public land, but huge amount of hunting pressure.
