Notch dryad dynamic cabling

What’s the general consensus so far? Worth switching to? Any applications where this performs better than core/sheathed rope or amsteel?

Is this really better for the Stepps? Seems like it would be, but looks like I need to spend 130 for 300 ft...yikes

I've got it on 2 stepps for getting around bigger trees, I ordered 6ft rope with a pack of 10. Has low stretch, very light, packs easy and fairly easy to splice. Very fine strands that can frey if caught on something like my cheap plastic fid that had a burr on it. Little harder to work with when adjusting rope length for installation for you can't back it out of the knot like the stock rope, it makes a very tight knot but not like you can't loosen it. Maybe @Swampfox Has more of an opinion, think he has been using it longer than I have.

If used to replace ropes on stepps, are you just splicing it according to the original stepp instructions?

From treestuff:

"
Splicing Recommendation

Two tucks separated by 6 picks, followed by a straight bury of 1 fid length. Tie a stopper knot after the bury exits.
"

Thanks Red, but can you assist me in understanding what this means? I also believe that it was mentioned above that this was for splicing two pieces of rope together. Just want to ensure it is done right since it is for my climbing method.

I feel you described it pretty good. I still have it on the few steps I put it on originally. However, I rigged up the rest of my steps with Amsteel. It’s not that I don’t like this stuff, it’s that I buy Amsteel in large quantities so it’s cheaper and more convenient. One thing I really like about it is that it is dynamic, making it easier to cam the steps over yet not so much as to become loose. If I wasn’t using Amsteel I’d use this, I like it a great deal more than what comes on the steps currently. Hope this helps!

I do like how it holds the knot for camming but it takes a little bit to fine adjust it cause of how tight the knot gets but i think just working with it more will help. What I like about it most is how easy it packs. I'm a little hesitant to try amsteel cause of how slick it is but I'm going to try it. Thanks.

I wondered about Amsteel. How long have you used it and are there any big negatives and what diameter did you use

What is it you guys don't like about the rope that comes with Wildedge steps? It seems to work good?

I like it too. I put 1/4 amsteel on one but went back to the original.
Same. I did per the recommendation of @DaveT1963 and @g2outdoors. I didn't like untying the knot with cold weather fingers and it was harder to make any adjustments. It packed awesome though. I need to play with it more.

I haven't found anything that works better than the rope that comes with them. The rope is stiff and it makes tying but more importantly untying and adjusting the knot easy. Everything else I have tried is easy to tie but is harder to untie after it has been cam'ed down tight.

The only real disadvantage to the rope they come with is the amount of pack space they take up. The stiff rope just doesn't pack very tightly.

I interpreted it as:
1. Pass the rope through itself.
2. Move down 6 rows of braid and pass it back through itself
3. Bury the rope into itself for 1 fid length (7 3/4" for 3/8") and bring the rope back outside.
4. Tight a stopper knot in the end

I'm not 100% sure it is right but that is how I did it and it seemed to work.

Thank you... would this be similar to the locked Brummell G2 shows in his video on amsteel, minus the knot?

Personal preference of course... I don’t like the way the rope packs into the bag. By the time I break everything down and put it into a bag and then have to fight the zipper, I get aggravated. With the knot I use for Amsteel I can untie with minimal effort and then pack into the bag without a hassle. That’s really the only issue I have with the standard rope that comes on them. Great product overall, I just have certain things I’m peculiar about.

I agree totally. I bought the dryad to play with but this is the only thing I put it on just because I wanted 2 stepps with 8ft ropes, going to keep it on there cause I would be putting them on first and from ground level. If i could adjust the knot easier I would put it on all of them. Gonna try amsteel on one but if not i will use the original rope. Cant remember who it was that put the dryad on a stick with a versa button but I could see that being a good application for it since you should only have to just put it on tight without readjustment. Maybe for a platform also according to type of attachment system. Oh and I'm also going to put it on my Kestrel temporarily/permanently to try a fixed bridge. Hey @Swampfox are you saying you use a different knot with the amsteel and not the WE knot?
