I use the MR28 for saddle hunting.
It works well. I have used it for several 1 day trips out west and have used it for several Midwest whitetail hunting days.
I place my 1 stick inside the meat shelf when walking into the forest.
You can also hang it off the outside or bottom of the pack.
I really like the water bladder compartment and drinking hose that attaches to the front.
Holds all my gear just fine. I will say the zipper compartments are just ok. They could have made.one or two internal zipper compartment for better organization, but nothing that's negative, more of a preference for me.
The two outside pockets are very handy for quick access to water bottles, bear spray, release, etc.
You can attach the pack to the tree or hang it on a strap, it sits well either way and you have easy access to the compartments.
The fit and adjustment of the pack is a 10 out of 10.
It can shrink up for those quick sits or expand for the 5 mile hikes.
The material seems to be pretty tough.
The reason that I went with the smaller pack was for 1 day, maybe overnight and I need the meatshelf for out west.
If I was going to go for more than 2 days I would look at a pack that is bigger than the MR38-40.
