Question about ordering rappel rope

I’m looking to buy sterling c-iv canyon rope and the website (Cruzr) has an option to add an optional sewn eye termination for an extra $20, but then it says only one sewn eye will be added regardless of the length of rope you order. I can’t tell by the wording if the rope automatically comes with a sewn eye or if I need to pay extra to have one added. I also don’t know if I need one or not although I imagine I would. I know this is probably a stupid question but I’m a newb and I’d rather just ask than assume anything. Thanks in advance!

what I’m thinking they mean there is for $20 you’re only getting one sewn eye…. Typically u could order say 48 feet of rope but tell them you want an 8 ft length and a 40… you’d have to specify which length you want the sewn eye….probably better to just contact Cruat though

Depending on the eye size I’d forgo it and just use a scaffold knot on a delta link or other quick link. If the eye is too small when you pull on your pull down line the eye will grip your rappel line and you won’t be able to get enough slack in the rappel line to cause it to slide down the trunk. With a link just a quick jerk and the whole mess slides right now. If it’s a 2” or greater you’ll prolly be ok

I contacted Cruzr and they recommended a 1-2" eye. I opted for a one. I don't know if it's too late to change it I'll call tomorrow but if it is too late am I screwed? I don't want to constantly fight pulling down my rappel rope.

Not at all. Just work with it, the 1” might work cuz the sheath is fairly slippery. If you find it’s too tight just run a link.

Just don’t forget to connect your let down line to either the link or eye to help loosen the hitch. You gonna have fun!
