I was out one day in some thick bush and following some large hare tracks. I caught up to the hare but missed the shot. After a good 30 min I was bushed. I decided to head back to the trail and turned to face it but pulled out my compass to double check and man was I lost!!! I was pointing in the completely wrong direction. I turned around and got to what should have been the trail with my tracks but it was bare. I headed north on it and finally found my tracks where I'd gone off into the woods after the hare. Thankfully I had my compass with me! (I also had my cell phone with offline maps and an old school GPS unit in my bag).
I was never really lost in the sense that about 200-500 yards to my east was an unmistakable landmark, a hydro cut that runs about 250 miles and once you find it you just follow it back to the car but the less on here is to always carry a compass and be careful about getting turned around when chasing a rabbit!
