Rappelling Rigs

yeah I don't know if the lower portion of the rope gets more supple, but it definately is compared to what I just slid down.

When do you retire a rope? when the outer is visibly damaged? I suppose rappelling would show damage on the outside of the rope first eh?
 
I've only played around with it but I bought the Grigri 2 aswell
 
I use a Tango cinch on Samson Velocity. I see some of you have used non locking carbines and in the tree climbing world triple acting carbines are the safe choice. I Cinch the climbing line to the tree and once back on the ground I then pull the system out of the tree with a retractable pull up line.
