Rappelling rope

Im using a gri gri with the sterling 9mm. It works fine. Its not as smooth on descent as 10.8mm and the Gri Gri doesnt grab the 9mm very well after being unweighted. Not that I trusted it with the 10.8mm rope...(always had a stopper knot or used the petzl hold knot.) But you better make sure you have something if using the 9mm as a back up and always hold on to the tail end of the rope when you re-weight the gri gri...like you are supposed to do anyways.

I'll be getting one of those just not sure which one.

yeah looking at the pics on the thumbnails above, the BD only has one place the carabiner can settle into. Wonder what happens if the carabiner somehow gets up into the finger control / lift area of the jul2

Man !! This game gets crazier Everytime I see something ! Use the grigri , but like the bd . Can I have them all !!??

I saw they are coming out with the GriGri plus. It may be worth the wait. Pricy but I like the panic feature.

I'm thinking about buying the Predator rope like on my Aero Hunter for my rappelling rope. Good choice ya think?

Little big for my taste. 30'+ of 11mm rope doesn't pack the best. If they made it in 8 or 9mm I'd be all over it! It would work just fine I'm sure if you wanted to carry it.

It used to be yale bandit. They changed it.

You could use 9 mm Samson ultra tech. It is a static rope not dynamic though. It is certainly light and strong and the color is good.
That's what I use. It worked perfectly last season with a micro 8. I think I'm going to upgrade to a GriGri2 or a fancier descender. The rope is fine though.

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before but you can buy end pieces from sterling for $20. Sometimes it is red but I don't think it matters. It is very nice rope and has always been plenty long enough. Their website just changed and I'm not seeing the link but I bet you can just call them and order it.

Poly Static 11mm-7/16" 33-49' (10-15M)

g2, If your looking for an alternative to the grigri, check out the MadRock Lifeguard. the patent expired on the grigri so other companies are now able to use and improve on the design. the Lifeguard is smaller, stronger, and is made of aluminum and stainless steel. no plastic like on the grigri. I use it on 9mm ultratech and it works great. http://www.madrockclimbing.com/products/product.asp?_item=100161

So I was browsing Wes Spur website and looked at their close out rope section. 35 feet of Predator for $22. Couldn't pass on it. I'll give it a try for my rappelling rope. I'm still researching devices. I'm not real concerned about the added weight because I hunt easily accessible private property 99.9 % of the time.

After talking at pigmageddon I decided when using my xop climber top that I needed a backup option should I break or otherwise lose my climber. I ordered a mammut smart belay. Got a call from Backcountry this afternoon from a guy there saying if I needed anything else or had any questions to let him know. The only thing I could think of was ropeman1. I told him about this site and what we did with their equipment. I also ordered a short spool of eldelrid from treestuff. It is larger but I will use some for tethers
and linesmans belts.
