Really expensive mistake

I'm sure some of us even left a kid somewhere once or twice. Hahahaha.

Welllll……..

Back in the day we had season tickets to SC football. Very few games were on TV back then so the games generally started at 8. Myself, my brother, my dad and my uncle had been hunting. My aunt was driving down and my dad was dropping us three off at the stadium and we were to ride home with the aunt and uncle. She left her car 50 miles away and hopped a ride with some friends.

Uncle hops in with them and leaves us. Me and my brother hitchhike the 100 miles home.

Fast forward 15 years or so and myself and my uncle were hunting in GA. He shows up at my house Saturday morning instead of driving himself for whatever reason. Works for me.

We hunt Saturday, Sunday morning and I drop him off where he plans to hunt Sunday evening. I drive back off the property and head the 2 hours for home.

That night my mom gets a call from my aunt wondering where her husband is. My mom asks me and I calmly reply, “I left his ass in GA”. My mom smiled the happy smile of revenge coming to fruition years after someone left her baby 100 miles from home in the middle of the night and told my aunt, “I guess he’s in GA and you need to go get his sorry ass”

I don't put my name and number on things, but maybe it's a good idea. Hamskea allows you to order custom engraving on their rests and some folks put their phone number on it just in case they lose it and an honest person finds it.

Maybe try calling the closest DNR office? An honest person might've found and dropped it off there before someone else stole it (?)

Sorry to hear about your beast stand man that really is unfortunate. I’m praying you get it back. I would for certain make some calls or Facebook posts and leave your name there on a bulletin board with an email or your phone number. You may also want to call the local police department or sheriff’s office or whatever in the most local jurisdiction. You can’t believe what we get in our PD lost and found etc. surprisingly there are a lot of very nice and honest people out there. I’d also call the local municipality closest to that game land area and the DEC or forest rangers. Our DEC gets stands left on state game lands and if nobody claims them they ask instructors if we can use them in our classes. I always ask what they have and most of them don’t have a clue what a good stand is or not. It may be somewhat embarrassing or a hassle but spend an hour and a half on the phone maybe you’ll get some leads.

I even thought about doing that and meant to and just didn’t get to doing that in time sadly. May have helped if I did I guess. Assuming the person was honest. If never buy an expensive stand like that again I will be doing that first thing.

Back to the beast stand…..definitely get it out there that you lost it and you’re looking for it. I think you might be surprised because most people will indeed do the right thing. In fact, you may well run across a post looking for the owner while searching for places to post about losing it.

A few years ago I was about a mile back on public for an evening hunt. Packed up and was busting out of there trying to get home to the wife and kid and along the way lost my Nock2It Silverback. Realized it that night and was pisssssed. Luckily I had the tracker on OnX. Went back the next day and retraced my steps and found it laying up against some rocks I had climbed. Still feel lucky as crap about that. Hope you can have the same luck!

I have returned lots
Of stuff to people who dropped things in the woods..just the boyscout in me. It’s actually been beneficial when I am hauling a deer from deep in the woods or changing a tire or just new friends. the key is generally put your name/ phone number on it.To many people think finders keepers…I think it’s more like.. I didn’t pay for it, it’s not mine.

I wish everyone would think that way.

It sucks for sure. If it makes you feel better my mother forgot a kid at the park while she was working for a daycare. Straight left little Timmy and never realized it until she was back at the school.
After an accident with a traumatic brain injury I forgot a lot. Then I forget that I forgot and keep going. It’s like a super power. Good luck to you!

I haven’t forgot a kid yet. Might happen one of these days. I know all about forgetting that I forgot things too. Thanks! At this point I’m thinking it’s long gone.
