Should I buy a harness with built in d loops? I see a lot of climbing harnesses do not have them.

Depends on what your goal is to use it for. Generally the arborist harnesses have "d" loops for a linemans belt, etc. But they are heavier stiff, lots of metal. IF you are trying to setup a sit drag or the likes, I would suggest something more simple like a BD Alpine Bod, petzl pandion. You dont need it to bepadded if you are gong to use a "saddle" of sorts to support your weight, and gear loops and the such can just create pressure points.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a lineman by trade and I am used to belts with d loops. I just didn't know where you would attach your linemans belt harness that didn't have d loops.

I use my old BD RCH its got some light padding, I added the d-loops the same way @bowhunter15 did in his one stick climbing YouTube video, basically it's climbing webbing run along the back, he recommends a rated loop in the back, I made one.

I just ordered some 10 inch runner loops to just girth hitch around the harness for my d-loops.

In my opinion you can't beat the rock climbing harness for beginners lots of options, safe, cheap etc. I wouldn't buy one with d-loops, the arborist ones are pricey and typically have too much metal.

I'm looking at a Mammut Ophir to go with the Sit Drag that arrived yesterday. Would runner loops work for the Ophir? There's no loop in the back for the @bowhunter15 method.

might have to finagle something. I've used a rock harness for my stands for YEARS, in fact, I have never used a full body. The belay loop actually works fine for both ends of your Linemans, you just have to get used to it. Thats the way the old treesuit worked as well, 1 attachment point for linemans in the front.

I took two small continuous loops of amsteel and girth hitched them around the main waist belt of my RCH, one on each side.. Girth hitch them around the main belt but between the gear loops so they don't slide forward. It has worked well for me.

That's a good solution!

The Mammut Ophir Slide 3 has a 5Kn rated loop in the back which I incorporated to anchor the harness to the rest of my rig. There are a few tutorials on youtube for it.
