Ropeman 1 + Carabiner question

I wanted the ability to easily cinch it down small for rapelling and I liked the ropeman more than knots. Plus by adding the rings, I was able to eliminate the paws

I might try Ernie's bridge if I start rappelling. A very short bridge might work well for that. I think Boswell has a long bridge... most have a short one... I would like to try varying my bridge length depending on whether I am sitting or leaning.
Presently I have a fixed 24 inch bridge with knots so eliminating them might save some of the added weight of the ropeman

"Extended Rappel" is actually a great technique. It keeps the rappel device up and away from you where you can see it and
It keeps the brake end easy to tend and lots of room for an autoblock.

On a climbing harness, I run a sling between the harness and the device

I found that for climbing SRT I needed to have my bridge as short as I could make it. But for rappelling down I just keep my bridge full length and it works fine.

Like this?

Could you use carabiners instead of the rings?? I know that would probably just add more weight!

Red I've never really tried SRT climbing but my buddy Mike went to an adjustable bridge just for that because the only way to get a long enough step. With the longer bridge it was impossible for him to take anything but small steps. Then I watched another friend struggle the same way trying to SRT but his bridge was way to long.

Roger,

That will be interesting with the kestrel. The bridge is pretty short.
It would be pretty easy to just clip on a short sling to use as a bridge while climbing. You could girth Hitch itnto one side and then clip it to the bridge carabiner if you didn't want to add extra hardware

I went with the Petzl open rings and adjustable bridge on my Krestel for SRT and repelling.

Easy and simple.

VF_Mike, what is that on the ring that your rope is through? I did the same thing with my Evo but used a ropeman.
