I modded one my shikar stick by filing down the section of the standoff. Now when the stick is deployed, the post sits into the slot of the standoff and tightening the knob makes them fixed, so the standoffs don't rotate on me at all. Now I have a stick that the step and standoff rotates for travel, but is fixed and steady while being used. Has anyone here done this before?

That is a great idea! I have not modded mine, but now am thinking about it.

the washer is on there because the threading of the replacement grade 8 bolt only goes so far. It wasn't an issue previously, but its not as thick when the standoff is filed.

A flat chainsaw file is the perfect width for the size of the post. takes a bit of time, but I work with what I have.

Filed a second shikar stick down today, I am really liking this modification. The folding and portability of the rotating standoff shikars, but the solidness of a fixed stick

Yes I did mine a year and a half ago. I had my buddy put it on his mill and milled them out. Been happy with how they turned out.

I just filed one stand-off and am happy with how it stays put, however, I am seeing one potential issue. I typically use the standoffs as leverage to get the knob tightened down and also to loosen it after a hunt. It may not be an issue for most but I just had a heck of a time trying to loosen the knob with sweaty fingers. I’m sure I would have the same difficulty with cold fingers.

I will be honest. If I need to go compact I will fold up my sticks. But I use bungees and leave my sticks deployed most of the time and just strap them to my pack. Its make for faster time of getting in and out of the woods. Mine also have Harkin cleats on 3 of them and one had a daisy chain amsteel.
The thumb knobs can be a bit tough sometimes but most of the time I have not had any issues. I prefer the grooved standoffs as it seems sometimes they would rotate just enough when setting the sticks it would make the steps just a bit loose. Not that it was a huge issue, but being a big dude I feel more secure on them with the standoff locked in place.

i honestly had more issue with getting the knob tight enough with the rotating standoffs. i would hold them and torque the standoff to the best of my ability, to tighten them, and the knob would hurt my fingers. the standoffs still would often rotate on me anyways
