Silver vs. Activated Carbon Clothing

Silver technology is strictly used as an anti microbial to kill bacteria if the silver is close to the skin. If there is silver in an exterior garment, the silver doesn't do much if anything at all because it doesn't come into contact to your body and therefore can't kill the bacteria. Also silver has no molecular adsorption capabilities which is what activated carbon is all about. Also the odor molecules associated with bacteria are just a few of the hundreds of differing odors molecules that emits from the human body. Lastly anti-microbials only kill the bacteria they come in contact with, they do nothing in adsorbing the odor from the dead bacteria. Silver lined garments are awesome as bottom layers and that's why the US military uses silver in socks and underwear to control bacteria.

I like silver for base layers...
My Sitka base layers have Polygiene, which is a silver chloride treatment.
I can get ALL KINDS of sweaty, throw them in a pile, and not worry about them developing that locker room smell.

They stay remarkably fresh even after long days scouting.

I agree. Silver for base layers, but not necessarily needed if you have a full activated carbon outer layer including face mask and head covering. Also, not leaving jacket or anything unzipped even partially allowing scent to escape. But silver is a good additional layer of protection in limiting bacterial growth
