Sit Drag questions

Classes at PigMageddon?

Sent from my
Sit drag, Ernie's outdoors linesman belt,
At 20' up

Well I'm definitely not the one to give lessons but I would show you if I was going. Sorry. I tried using a tool for it but couldn't ever get it done. So I used a small piece of wire hanger folded over and some electric tape.

I definitely didn't enjoy myself while doing it but I'm glad I did it myself. Anybody can do it if I can. Haha. G2outdoors really helped me with mine over the phone.

We can definitely do some training at PigMageddon. I'll bring my splicing tools to show you how easy it is.

Okay, so let me beat the dead horse here. Been trying to decide about buying a rc harness with rated linesman belt loops or not. The ones that have them tend to be bulky and heavy, whereas the black diamond ones your recommend here do not have the rated loops ont he side for a linesman belt but are much lighter and probably way better. So, what do I do? Do yall use your sit drag as a linemans belt while climbing>?

I am trying to build a sit drag setup and cant decide on a harness or how to use a linemans belt.

I just used a linemans with the sitdrag the few times I climbed with it. Probably not the smartest thing to do...

Note to self... need to add a few gear loops for pouches....

I believe @DIYsportsman covered adding linesman belt function to an RC harness in one of his YouTube videos... I may be wrong. His channel should easily come up when searched on youtube's search function.

Ikeman, I just watched that video. That is definitely one way to do it. Thanks for pointing me to that video, its included in the one stick climbing method video.

The way I look at it... if i'm going to be adding a RC harness to the mix I might as well be taking out my aerohunter. The idea of the sitdrag was the lightweight the entire situation... adding an RC harness kind of defeated the purpose for me (along with making it a more costly endeavor).

Despite the obvious safety concerns I feel pretty safe in my sitdrag... that said I may change my tune after doing a couple of sits with it. We shall see.

Ah, one important thing i forgot to mention... i went with a riggers belt with a rescue-rated cobra buckle (fusion tactical from LA Police Gear for $40). I use the loop on the riggers belt to attach the caribiner for the linemans belt.

I understand completely. I use and aerohunter, but am currently trying to build an inexpensive sling "sit drag" setup for a friend. Black Diamond makes several lightweght harnesses around $50. You hardly know you are wearing it. I am just tryign to find the safest way to fabriacte a linemans belt.

The last 2 seasons I haven't used a harness with the SitDrag. I know, I know, I know - this isn't safe in the eyes of the TMA and OSHA.

I'm not recommending anyone else do it - just giving my experience. I think I'm going to add a harness to my setup this season.

The SD makes an excellent lineman belt. I really wish someone would test the limits of the SitDrag.

I edited my comment after i made it... but I forgot to mention I went with a rescue-rated riggers belt + cobra buckle. If you don't want to add a full harness you could look into that.

I have dozens of hours in my SD. I've even rappelled with it a couple dozen times. I feel completely safe in it.

I do the same as @g2outdoors. I modified my Sit drag to be my entire saddle setup, no RC harness used. I feel completely comfortable with the safety of it, but we typically don't recommend anyone else do it for safety reason. I sewed a belt into the sitdrag that has a cobra buckle on it, and use the original loops for my linesman belt connection. Then, I switch to a bridge for my sit.

I would really like to eventually make my own sitdrag-esk saddle from all climbing rated webbing, but that will be a while.

Here is my modified Sit drag with all modifications circled. The small tabs along the bottom are so I can use gear ties to tie sticks to if property regulations don't allow me to use spurs.

Here it is with the Molle pouches (For two linesman's belts. One of which becomes my tether at hunting height.)

And the entire packed setup. This is literally everything for an all day sit, minus the bow.
My spurs have since been modified with webbing straps.

Wow! You got it down. Thanks Ikeman, I appreciate you showing me that. I like the sewn in belt idea, but for now i may still recommend a rc harness as a safety backup in the beginning. You got a slick setup man, i really like it.

One day when i can cough up the money, ill get me some of those spikes and quit messing with these heavy climbing sticks i have.

Haha.. i'm not quite there yet either with the climbing spurs. Maybe next year...

I'll do a full video overview of my Saddle system very soon.

I sew in a waist belt as well. This belt isn't load bearing, but keeps the SD on my waist, that's it. My lineman belt attaches with a carabiner on the left side and a carabiner/Ropeman combo on the right side.
