Sit Drag questions

Thanks for all your input guys.
I appreciate it.

Looks like I am going to build a setup with a Mammut Ophir 3 Slide and a sit drag for a sling.
Will incorporate a lineman's belt just like the one in DIY Sportmans video using 1 inch webbing thru the haul loop.

This is the harness we chose.

Pretty much the same setup as diysportsman.

Maybe eventually when we get more experience we will switch to no harness and sewn in belt.

I use my harness because I typically climb with one stick, and hang from it. I throw the sit drag over my shoulder, then when at hunting height, clip into my ropeman on the tree tether, and slide into the sling.

I am currently building a copy out of much stronger webbing and thread. I'll still wear the harness. I like to live, and redundancy isn't all that heavy here.

I am looking into one of the ultra light weight harnesses. I think it would probably be comfortable enough for the five minutes i'll be hanging from it while climbing.

I do the same as @g2outdoors. I modified my Sit drag to be my entire saddle setup, no RC harness used. I feel completely comfortable with the safety of it, but we typically don't recommend anyone else do it for safety reason. I sewed a belt into the sitdrag that has a cobra buckle on it, and use the original loops for my linesman belt connection. Then, I switch to a bridge for my sit.

I would really like to eventually make my own sitdrag-esk saddle from all climbing rated webbing, but that will be a while.

Here is my modified Sit drag with all modifications circled. The small tabs along the bottom are so I can use gear ties to tie sticks to if property regulations don't allow me to use spurs.

Did you sew the belt in yourself?

No, I had an upholstery shop do all the sewing. I haven't picked up a sewing machine yet. They used a super strong thread for me.

Probably looks nicer than my speedy stitched belt... well i'm positive it does. Just don't make fun of my sit drag lol.

I've done all the sewing on all my Sitdrags. I use the speedy stitcher awl as well as my Singer Heavy Duty sewing machine. I suck at sewing, but it's good enough for my purposes.
