Sit drag vs Kestrel vs TL Saddle?

I had a mesh trophy line for years and I never could get it right and always dealt with hip pinch.

I bought a sit drag and have never felt any pinch. Don’t know if it’s because of the amsteel bridge on the sit drag or what but I’m using the same tether as before.

In my case, the sit drag is night and day better than the trophy line.

I haven’t tried any other saddles to further compare. I doubt I ever switch either because the sit drag just works for me and was super cheap.

I had the same experience. I learned to deal with the hip pinch. I thought it was just how things were if I wanted to saddle hunt. Then I made a Sitdrag... Wow! Total comfort.

I love it so much. If the Kestrel is significantly more comfortable, that thing must be a la-z-boy.

I think I could learn to tough it out if that's what it takes to saddle hunt, but why be uncomfortable if you good folks can teach me how to improve my set up.

And I REALLY want to incorporate saddle type hunting into my bag of tricks. But I didn't think I'd become a 100% saddle guy, though. I thought I'd still hunt from hang on stands at least a portion of the time.
But when I hear the enthusiasm you guys have for saddles...well, ya never know. Might be selling my stands some day.
I may also have a TL for sale if I decide that a sit drag or Kestrel is the way I need to go.
Not selling my Strap on steps though! :)

I never found any of them to be uncomfortable. I think it is a lot about expectations. I am not expecting a lazy boy tree saddles (that would be the tree lounge). When compared to a regular tree stand I find ALL the saddles mentioned above far better in regards to less back pain. Now when I used pegs and a high tether then I experienced a lot of foot pain. Used with a platform, a saddle is pretty dang comfortable IMO.

But I also exp3ect that I will have to shift my weight and move/readjust from time to time. That is due to GRAVITY not a fault of the saddle. even patients in nursing homes that lay all day have pain from constant pressure on the same point.

So I guess my point is, play around with it, have reasonable expectations and then practice with it more to build up your tolerance. The saddles themselves are pretty good at distributing the weight across the saddle.
The lazy boy treesaddle would be a Guido's web. Extremely comfortable. Like I said the TL saddle was my most uncomfortable saddle . My treesuit had a hard sear and it was more comfortable .

Unfortunately I never got super comfortable in a trophyline. The things that will make a difference are a forehead-chin height hookup and a little longer bridge... Say 24-30 inches. Try that and see if you can make it work.

So how does one go about lengthening the bridge? It's sewn into the unit.

I've been watching some YouTube vids on the Kestrel and I'm liking what I see.
So for you guys that have experience with both a sit drag AND a Kestrel, which do you prefer and why?
Sorry guys for all the anal questions but I'm determined to become a hard core saddle hunter like you.

I get that, I guess I just go about thinking of things totally different than most people on here? For me a saddle is a hunting tool that puts me in the right place, in any tree, so that I can execute a hunt… comfort really is not a concern of mine just like when I used a backpack while elk hunting, it certainly wasn't comfortable carrying all that gear on my back but it was effective and thus I was able to push through any discomfort.

I’m new to this also and really like the mobility that saddle hunting give you. I purchased a Trophy Line just because I found a used one for a good price and near me. I’ve thought about cutting the bridge and possibly trying to use the linesman belt as an adjustable bridging

Well when you get injured at work and shatter your left pelvic and brake your right pelvic and have burst fracture of the L3 and L4 and are 58 years old comfort is very very important.I do not advise you try that lol

So you would be not tied in to the tree for a bit - at hunting height - yikes - please don’t

I found the bridge was a comfort limiter for me. If there's a way you could cut the current bridge and somehow attach your own, that would be a good solution. I can't remember...if there is hardware on both hips where you could tie in a bridge?

Like @kelly.jayp mentioned, transitioning from LB to bridge is a bad idea.

There’re is a loop on both sides of mine that you could attach to. Playing with it in the yard I really the feel of it. Watching your guys video has me wanting to alter the saddle. I really like the ropeman and would like to incorporate that to my set up.

I'm using 2 Petzel Ring Opens put through the sewn loops in th TL. It's actually my linesman rope, but I've been experimenting at ground level as an adjustable bridge. I have zero issues with comfort out of this and this bridge seems to make it feel better than the stock bridge. I just may cut the stock bridge out and sew a 1" webbing loop on one side, and another 6-8" webbing on the other with a "G" hook to cinch it tight for the walk in.

If I do commit to this mod, I will probably put my ropeman 1 through the ring deleting the biner.
Then cut the suspenders off and put the bridge across my shoulders behind my neck.
