Site suggestions

Scott,

Start looking at ways to increase search hits with engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, etc.

About 18-20 years ago, I built a site for my kickboxing gym and was able to get them ranked on the 1st page of search engines and within the top 3 hits. You'll need to make heavy use of meta tags and the like plus constantly requesting site reviews (an actual person does it) to get a higher ranking.

How about asking New Tribe to link to your site from their Aero page?

Just a thought...

Thanks Joe. I set that stuff up when I set up the site, but obviously I can make it better. I have a ton of stuff going on at work for the next few weeks but as soon as that all clears up I am going to make some modifications to the site and I will look into it more then. Thanks!

Any reason I can't do PMs on Tapatalk? I can on other forms. Maybe I have a setting messed up?

Let me look into it. They must have changed something after an upgrade because you used to be able to.

When clicking on an external link in a thread, it would be nice if that link opened in another tab, rather than having you leave the saddlehunter page.

I'll have to look at that again. It used to do that before some update.

have a tab at the top of the page or an individual forum on the Suppliers as reference to buy gear. We all buy from all over but listing them may help others where to find what they are looking for. We just submit the supplier to get added to the list to the admin if it is not there already.

redsquirrel I really enjoy this site and all the innovation. There are some ideas that get talked about quite frequently within some threads that can be difficult to find. I know you have a DIY section which is great but I was wondering if having a best of page (maybe within the DIY section) would help in finding popular techniques. For example a link to your climbing aider method or the Cain method. I will also admit I'm not good with tying my own knots or trusting myself with making some of these tools by myself so links to some of the popular aiders or amsteel bridges and how to safely make them I think would help new saddle hunters.

That is a good idea. If someone wants to bump threads like this I can make them stickies and put them all in a "best of" place or something like that.

I think it may be easier to wade through for new folks if it is put together in a single thread (a stickie). Break it down by categories and include links. Similar to the sewing resources thread. I'm working from home today....when I need a break I'll start putting the framework of something together and it can be edited to include items I miss...

I know when I joined the beast forum, I found their "all time best tactical threads" (or something to that effect) sticky. That was super helpful and got me pointed in the right direction.

That was exactly what came to my mind as well. I've started going back through some of the older stuff....there is ALOT of it. Going to be a work in progress. Going to take more than a day. I may just have to put up a basic framework and you all can help me add to it!

Hawk what I hear in your question is, "make it easy for me."

Redsquirrel here does an awesome job keeping this forum up-to-date. You can "like" things, it's pretty current.

If you're interested in the Ropeman 1 device as used in saddlehunting, the best way to see how that's talked about on this website is to go to (google or duckduckgo or searx.me):

https://google.com/
https://duckduckgo.com/
https://searx.me/

and add a site tag to you search:

"ropeman 1" site:saddlehunter.com

So that way, you only get links from this website.

You can make searching for things discussed here easy for yourself.

I have always considered myself a pretty efficient "googler" but, I had no idea you could add a site tag like that. I have used keywords and site names together to get results but, not in that fashion. Thanks for the tip.

I do something similar. Often when you search and a forum pops up it will give you the option to click a link that does the same thing. It's amazing home many times I google something and saddlehunter.com pops up! LOL!

The search function on the site is actually decent too. Sometimes you have to adjust your keywords a bit, but it works MUCH better than it did on the original phpbb3 site.

Is there anyway to make is so when you hover over a thread title it shows the first sentence? Basically the way it works on Archerytalk.
