Snack sticks

Great. Now I need to build a smoker.

Seriously think that over.
How often will you use it?
How much do you plan to smoke at one time?
Where will you put it?
How will you move it when your wife doesn't like where you put it?

I have to babysit mine, nothing is automated. I have a remote temp meter, but still have to watch it. I have to go look and see if it needs more wood chunks to produce smoke. I have lots of money in mine, more than I could of bought a small portable Bradley automated smoker for. Yes it was a fun project, but it would be nice to have one that is plug and play and could be put away easy when not in use.

Or you can just buy one. I just got this one as my christmas present. I didn't want to spend the money on a big green egg until I know I'm going to use it a lot. I did some research and figured this was a good introduction into smoking. Between grilling and smoking I've fired it up about 1/2 dozen times already in the couple weeks I've had it. I'm grateful for this warm weather right now!

Definitely not building one. Just wishful thinking.

I've thought about going with a Big Green Egg, or one of the knockoffs, but I won't use it enough to justify the cost.

Seriously, look into building a UDS. It costs about $125 to build. I never have to add wood or 'babysit' it. I put the food on, set my wireless thermometer, and wait it out. I've even smoked a pork butt overnight while I slept (set a temp alarm on my wireless thermometer and place it beside my bed just in case).
