Stepp Ladder reviews...

Hey Guys!

Make sure to check out our podcast with Nine Finger Chronicles! I also wanted to have all you "Gear Nuts" tell me what you would be looking for in the perfect saddle design! As we are working on our new saddle I want to make sure that we have everything in this design that would be beneficial in the perfect saddle and there is no better way to find out by asking all you saddle veterans!
Let me know what you like about your saddle set up and what you don't like or would like to improve, what material you like best, where the best position for the d-rings are, if a center loop is necessary, whether you like comfort over light weight and the importance of simplicity in the design. Our goal for our saddle is to be extremely simple (the least amount of buckles and straps possible), light weight and water resistant because i don't know about you guys but my favorite time to hunt is in the rain!

Lets hear your feedback!

If you are in the New England Area don't forget to come see us at the Springfield Sportsmen show this weekend!

All my best,

Honestly, you won't design a saddle that fits and pleases every hunter. We all seem to like something a little different. There needs to be a good, safe, well built minimalist saddle out there but then you get into competing with the custom built SitDrags we are using that costs very little to make. The downside is we are sewing on the accessories and belts ourselves and it probably isn't the safest which is the reason most use a RC harness with them. If you can come up with something like a SitDrag/RC harness hybrid made with quality camo material, sturdy connection points and molle loops for $100 or so I'd be interested

For the perfect setup I would pay more than $100 . WE spend way more than that experimenting

Just heard the Wild Edge interview on the Nine Finger Chronicles podcast. Very nice. Great info on there!

I started listening to this yesterday at work, and finished it up this morning.
You all can feel free to listen....just don't do the entry for the giveaway! I need my odds to be as favorable as possible! :D

What giveaway? Shhh...there is no giveaway ;-)

True. I am just saying there needs to be a middle of the road option between the$300+ saddles and the $35 SitDrag.

I agree with this. I would be willing to bet there are a number of people turned away from trying saddle hunting due to cost of manufactured saddle systems. Me personally, I'm willing to do a fair amount of research, DIY, and mess around with items like a SitDrag and a climbing harness to experiment with this style of hunting. It is the only way for me to get into saddle hunting at this point and time (and maintain a happy marriage). I do think a ready to use saddle system for sub $250 or even better sub $200 would help open the door to people interested in trying a saddle, but limited by a tight budget and not interested in DIY.

I know for a fact guys are turned off by the prices of current saddle systems. I think something in the $150-200 price point would be good. It's hard for a guy to justify $300 or more when most lock on stands can be had for a lot less.

I gave the podcast a listen yesterday and I thought it was a good podcast.

As for the the points y'all are making about price point I 100% agree. I just recently got into this saddle hunting but it took a while to pull the trigger. $400 for the new tribe was not going to happen for the sole reason, if I did not end up liking it, I would be stuck with the $400 saddle that I can not sell for anything close to that price. So I waited for a Trophyline to show up on ebay to buy it, because I knew that I could sell it for what I paid for it, as the demand is high. But with all this said, if the new tribe was $200 - $250 i would have just bought it. So if Andrew can put together a saddle in a price range that currently does not exist, it may be a good business decision ??? But not knowing manufacturing costs, marketing costs, etc I do not know if it is possible. Honestly if it drops anywhere below $200 I would buy it anyway.

Well guys, nothing set in stone yet, but I just bought an industrial sewing machine. I will begin experimenting here soon. I order some waterproof Cordura camo. , and so the adventure begins !!!@

What did you get?

Pfaff 438 . It sews heavy canvas , vinyl, lighter leather. I have to put a smaller pulley, and belt on it to slow it down. I think it's going to do well, for what I'm . I would like some input on what would really work for us, as a minimalist saddle.

Does it already have a digital motor? I ended up getting a digital motor then putting a huge pulley on my machine because without those modifications, I couldn't control it.

I love it though. I have been sewing all kinds of things since I got it.

It doesn't have w digital, or servo motor , yet but probably will. It's crazy fast now, and like you said, hard to control.

yeah, my wife has rolled her eyes at my sewing room several times. I got an old singer built in the 40's. I haven't found anything that it won't sew through yet. Its a rarer machine because it actually has reverse. If I can fit it under the foot, it will put thread in it. I have done as much as 1/2" of heavy nylon strap, and 2-3 pieces of heavy leather just to see what happens. on the really heavy leather, I can't get quite enough tension to balance the stitches, but the machine has no problem punching through.

On my wish list is a programmable box tacker capable of doing up to 2" webbing. But they are crazy expensive and I have only found one used one in the last year and was too slow on the trigger and someone else bought it.

I know this is stuff , hard to find, but doing this, is needed. I have looked for awhile, now, and just getting started, so who knows where it's going! Lol
