Steppladder Platform Board DIY

Great! Another count down! This will keep me refreshing the page! I can't wait!
Yep. Super secret news Wild edge inc may be releasing a new platform for saddle hunting lol. I highly doubt anyone would have a problem with 3/4 plywood being strong enough. You couldn't make it very large because the longer you make it the more leverage you will have to pull the top away from the tree or twist it sideways. I doubt you could stand up and turn around like you can with a xop platform but it would allow more comfort to someone using a few stepps as a platform.

I have used 550 cord to weave a solid surface to the top of some Stepps. My logic was that I didn't necessarily need a bigger platform for how I use them (one foot per Stepp), I just wanted a solid surface on each Stepp rather than the two portions of each Stepp that you stand on. Make sense?

It took me about a zillion tries to get a weave pattern that I was happy with, the biggest challenge was keeping the tension tight enough so it didn't sag, but more importantly keeping the weave ON TOP of the Stepp vs under it. Hope that makes sense.

Doing this enabled me to still have access to 'tie the knot'. In the end I tried it once or twice but removed the dadgum webbing. The concept works however.

Hey everyone! Thanks for bringing this to my attention! We have been messing around with a platform idea for months now and we think we have finally gotten it down and know you will all be excited to see how well it works.
It is clear too see in the video that the demonstrator did not cam the stepp over properly to make it tight! The concept is there, however I would not trust plywood! I will keep you all posted on the release of our new platform attachment!
Sounds great! Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

Thanks kevinwigington on youtube for posting a drawing of your platform for us. (pictured below) If your interested you can try this out while we wait for wildedge to release their platform. He used 3/4" plywood for his. This drawing would be awesome if it was printable!

I'm a fan. XOP platform has now become my preset stand. This is certainly more mobile and lighter for me

Give us the dirt on how comfortable it is compared to the XOP. Also, a pic of the XOP on top of the board (to compare size) would be greatly appreciated.

I have the wood, I just need the motivation to draw the outline and cut it up.

You use 3/4" plywood?

Also, I noticed your cord came out above the platform. In the video, it seems the cord comes out below the platform. Any reasons why you did it that way? Thanks!

Yes 3/4" plywood
I could not get my rope as tight as he could so i fished the rope out the top and back through on the other side which helped to cinch it better for me. I should watch his video more carefully and see if I can get it more like his.

I haven't watched the video for a while so take this with a grain of salt, but Andrew mentioned to me that he wasn't putting the stepp on right and it could be done better, so just cause the video did it doesn't mean you're not doing it better.

swampfox looks great!... I am currently working on one myself... I could see 3 stepps with attached aiders and one of these platforms equating to 21 feet. This setup would seem to be very light and comfortable with the addition of the platform. I'm thinking this climbing system and platform would come in under 5 pounds? I look forward to more users pictures and experience with this setup...thanks for posting>

The guy in the video did not have the stepp higher than the rope and was not getting the cam lock. Maybe he was doing that because of some issue with getting the ropes working correctly.

I have to cut up one of these boards and give it a try.

swampfox how is this platform working out for you? Did you get it to cam over tight and also how does it side load while leaning in your saddle? Are you still preferring it to your XOP platform? hows the comfort? etc. ... thanks!

Just got in this afternoon from working out of town all week. I played with it right at dark and was able to get it to cam over nicely. The steps are new so the stretch in the rope needs to be worked out a little more but when standing on it today the legs didn't pull from the tree. Season doesn't open here till next weekend so I still have some time to work the ropes. Overall I'm still liking this setup compared to other platforms. The reasoning is because of how portable this setup can be. I setup last weekend in the backyard for 30 minutes and found it to be just as comfortable and it withstood siding loading as well. This is me standing on the edge with all my weight and I felt pretty comfortable with it. The rope needed to be retightened at this point but like I said I'm working the stretch out.

Does the board make (or potentially make) any noise as you shift your weight or move around on it? Will it need any add-ons to help stabilize it? Or is it good to go?

No noise shifting weight but there is potential for noise with the wood hitting the metal during the setup process. I don't think it will need any additional add ons to help stabilize it. I'll be adding steps on the side of the tree to give me ability to move around and get a shot off.
