Thats great man and great hunt. I'm glad everythig worked out for you. I'm heading out tonight with a purpose so hopefully everything falls into place as well as it did for you.

Thanks! Go get them tonight! We had a nice breeze blowing earlier, hopefully it stays consistent. I'm back in the saddle, literally ;) , looking for a doe tonight.

NICE SHIRT ! GREAT STORY.

Thanks! That was the first generation sample shirt, no logo on the back. I hope you got yours and you like it!

I got skunked last night. I keep getting pictures of really good bucks on camera at a small pond but I wanted to cut them off before it got past shooting light. I found a transition that I think they are traveling on that had really defined corner with a ditch running parallel to north end of the main transition line. When I was walking in I found a nice 5 piont shed from a wide ten pointer I had on camera last year. this was a blind hunt and I got to a place to set up up. Awesome double maple where I could get my body between the 2 trunks and had a lone white oak around and a good field of view. I was waiting any minute for something to run through that funnel but no dice. I didn't exactly find a bunch of hot sign but by that time it was too late to relocate. They have been opening up a bunch of scrapes here already and making rubs so things are getting fired up but it hard to determine whats being laid down when. In the big woods it a crap shoot. Not like a field edge when you know all the sign was put down at night. Anyway the wind was nill and was probabley the best loooking set Ive had this year. Just trying to do some observation sits and try to narrow down a travel direction and possible bed. I have yet to sit on the pond it self. I'm just not the kind of guy who sits in the same spot for days straight and I hate hunting were I have camera hung because the pictures usually drop off after that. It was a long bike ride and hike but I have to get eyes on one of the 3 shooters I have on this tract. Cat and mouse

I'm with you on sitting the same spot over and over and sitting over cameras. In fact I just have a few cameras out right now and I haven't checked them in months. I've been more into scouting and getting spots set up this year. Just keep at it and it will pay off eventually!

Doe down last night. I was out with my father and brother in the park near my dads house. I'm no more than just set up in the tree when my dad texts doe down. I text my brother to stay put cause I really wanted him to shoot and called my dad to see if he wanted help. He had a very short drag and told me not to bother. So I stayed in the tree and at 6:30 she gave me a broadside shot at 20 yards. The shot looked good, but I found out I caught the edge of the scapula on the way in so I didn't get great penetration (I'm shooting the killzone low KE this year and this seems to be a recurring issue...) but she ran off and made the j hook to the left snowplowing all the way. I didn't see her go down but she went behind one tree and I didn't see her come out or hear anything after. When my dad got there I went over and checked the arrow where it pulled out (I love lighted nocks!) and there was all bright lung blood. Started trailing it a bit but it was small specs (as I would expect with no exit) in really thick brush. I walked back over to my dad and said let me take a walk over where I think she went down. Low and behold I get over there and shine around and there's the white belly! Deer 3 for the year! And a double with my dad!

Bought a NY tag so I can buck hunt. Heading up there with my buddy this weekend and solo the next 2 weekends. Next weekend I plan on doing some scouting and the following weekend I have 3 days of work off around the weekend. Hoping to see some cool temps and more bucks on their feet by then :D

NY is a tough place to hunt. Worse than PA and that's saying something.

Why? This is my first time out of state at all and it was either NY or PA to keep it to a 3-4 hour drive. I picked NY because they have Sunday hunting so I can get the most out of my weekends. I wouldn't say NJ is the best state to hunt either so I figured as long as I can get out in the woods with a tag...

Hey Team 2 Members,

I'm headed to MD to hunt this weekend. I'll let you know if I'm able to add to the score. This'll be my first time out all year long. I'll keep you updated.

Dave

I think its going to bust loose tomorrow with this cold front. Sat last night and nothing. I've done a couple all day sits and very little activity. Last Monday had one 120" 8 cruise by at 10:30. Going to sit all day tomorrow. I did kill a deer Halloween night. not the highlight of my hunting carear. I had to take my Lone Wolf Alpha b/c I was getting into some super thick stuff with really small diameter trees. I hiked about 2 miles finally set up not 5 minutes pass and this deer comes right to me bow still on the ground I managed to get the bow up nock and arrow and vaporize it. Much to my shagrine a botton buck. I was so freakin pissed. I was able to get back to my truck a little closer that than the initial hike 1.4 miles. So didn't kill it out of a saddle and the only thing I have going for me is that the little ones taste good. Other than that it was a freakin nightmare

This one doesn't count. I was in a ladder stand. Going back this afternoon in the Aero. (Couldn't set up the climbing sticks even with the full moon).

Hopefully I can add to the score later on!

This one was noteworthy, because it was my first deer! A button buck! It was a double-lung shot that severed the trachea. He went 40-50 yards and piled up.

Nice job! I had an absolute heart breaker today. I got pinned by about 15 does this morning bow on the ground while setting up. Decided to get away from the bedding and get in this insane pinch point between the woods marsh and field edge( inside corner) at about 12pm I got my platform set and just needed to get the eye sling around the tree and hook into my bridge and 25 yards broadside the biggest deer I've ever seen on stand comes in and pins me for 2 minutes. a doe blew by at mach speed and he was out. Bow on the ground. I was crushed. Easy mid 160" he had so much stuff going on with his rack he looked like Don King. Really rough day.

Man. Sounds rough. I'm back out tomorrow after church. Hopefully put some more points on the board. The one thing I noticed when setting up the platform today was that it did take a bit longer to get everything set and square as compared to a climber or ladderstand. Benefits greatly outweigh detriments though. I'm a convert.

CONGRATS DAVE!!! Not only your first deer, but 2 in one day!?! Awesome!!

BB-That is just rough! You are not catching any breaks! Just hang in there man... the hard work WILL pay off!

I just wrapped up my week off. The rut activity around here was pretty slow. I saw a bunch of does and spikes and Y's. Tuesday I had a big mature 6 point tending to a doe while I was up in the hill country. It was really cool to watch them come up and bed down 2/3 of the way up with their backs to the wind, nose in the thermals. I got to watch him thrash a tree and they were there for almost 2 hours. Tried a few grunts but didn't really expect him to come and he didn't. Finally he got up and stuck is nose in her butt and off they went. They were bedded at about 80 yards. Wednesday night I grunted in a 2.5yr old 6 point and he walked right under my tree. Friday I grunted in a nice 8 point, I think he was 2.5 but he was a nice looking rack, pretty deer and I was going to take him if given the opportunity. He came straight in to 23 yards and turned broadside behind a beech tree. I drew back and if he kept walking he would hit an open spot... but of course he turned and quartered away behind a tree and some branches! Oh well! Last night I had a basket 6 with really heavy beams come out under me just before dark. I think he is the same one I saw chasing a doe on Friday. It seems like some of the younger bucks were really on the move around me but for the most part the bruisers weren't out yet!
