The red squirrel climbing aider

Anyone used a red squirrel aider with climbing sticks?

No reason you can't. At 11:15 in this video I show one way to use an adjustable aider with sticks.

I tried it. However, I found that using a long moveable foot loop attached to top steps of sticks, is far easier and stable, and it accomplishes the same thing. I have no problem getting to 20 foot with my three modified helium sticks (22 inch between steps) and 1 aider. I made a video talking about this system and plan on doing one soon showing me actually climbing with my system. Just need to find a dang photographer.

I tried to train the dog to be my videographer... just ended up with videos of squirrels. Had to just put the camera on a tripod and climb up and down the tree 18 times. It was good exercise/practice :)

lol - Grace would take off with it :) I am too old and fat to climb up and down - and my GF said to hell with that (relating to the 14 degree temps of late).

I bought this aider at mec today

It seems to adjust super easy.
It locks to the foot well
It is long.
It has a wide comfortable foot loop
I think it would work well on Dave’s sticks or BC’s or Red’s aiders.
It could replace a Kong or that cam lock of BC’s or make Dave’s aider adjustable for more height

That looks pretty good Ontario. Have you tried it over heavy boots?

Not hunting boots yet. Once it is on your foot there is no need to re insert your foot until you finish climbing since you take it up with you. I intend to try it when I get a chance but I do not foresee a problem
It seems almost as easy as a ropeman to adjust with no noise from metal

Let us know how it works. Which one did you get right or left and would you hook it to a ropeman on the tether ?Thanks

Red, great Post & follow up. I like the idea of the rope girth hitched to the tree.

My wife was asking what if a Wild Edge stepp comes loose etc. (she too is thinking through all this with me). This was yesterday as I was practicing tying on the steps.

Even if I do not use this system to climb with I can keep something like this in my pack as a back up plan.

Alright, finally finished reading this thread. I'm interested and gonna have to play around with this a little. I have 2 generic steps so play with that I got for a platform.

the stepps won't come loose - they can shift a little if not properly cammed over, but even then the step is not going anywhere. At a minimum you could climb down one stp and adjust the shifting stepp. Plus reassure you are using your LB the entire time you ascend. My wife still think all this is nuts LOL

Ok I'm seeing this now that I watched the wild edge ascender video. This is a cool idea , have you tried this with climbing sticks? Dang I was so on the edge of buying the wild edge steps last year , I ended up with muddy sticks. Which Ascender is this Ive seen it on line before and saw a video , but the name escapes me.

Yes, about the past month or 2 I started using this on climbing sticks and it works AWESOME. I just hook the aider on top of the stick instead of girth hitching around the tree. When @g2outdoors and I hunted next to each other at saddlepalooza I was sitting at about 14 feet with 2 muddy sticks plus my step platform!

Wow that is serious two stick and an aider and your at fourteen feet , I like to get up there a bit for whitetail. I hunt pressured ground in New Jersey. Im excited to try this out , do you like the wild edge over the climbing sticks for mobility? Or does it depend on where your hunting, and how far in you have to go?

2X I have been getting 14 feet with two sticks and an adjustable aider as well. But I am using a Meticulous easy aider. I think that is better than the multi step aider I used last year. One big step instead of lots of little steps.

I think having the aider cinched to the foot is a small advantage too, especially if you are carrying it up the tree.
