Things I'm Changing after Saddlepalooza

I used the one stick once while hunting since I only packed one stick. Didn't do a demo on it though. I don't like it as much as many of the other options available now.

yeah I don't know....reaching down to retrieve my stick takes as long as it did reaching behind my back to retrieve my next stick. I could see how spurs and presets would beat it out, but that's about it imo

of course you've got to have a very specific setup for it. definitely not a one size fits all as far as saddles and sticks

It's posts like these that keep me jacked up to be a saddle Hunter!

Great!
So I like to invent, but I really value input and opinion so pipe in...
The one issue I had with my TL was foot placement. I thought ring of steps was what I wanted but I now realize, after lurking here, that there's more than one way to skin a cat.
I'm thinking more about making pre sets with platforms I'd leave in the tree.
I have a pile of grating that I can make mini platforms from. I've used this stuff to make small hang on stands that are rock solid. I'm thinking I can make smaller versions of those hang on for saddle hunting.
Here's what I have. I'd cut them in halfs or thirds. think I have enough for 30 or more platforms.
Not as light as the LW seats but it's free:)
I need to take and post some pics of the hang on version, but basically, light chain runs around the tree and a triangle rod supports the platform. They go up fast and easy. I make a mini version of wood for a seat for a non saddle set up. I think a smaller version of the platform would be great for a saddle rig. Opinions?

yeah id do it. with some screw ins....or even cheaper, some of those predrilled woodpecker/ez-kut holes for bolts. Your number of stands isn't limited by $

as far as size though....if its preset, bigger the better (and more comfortable)

They are like lightweight hip waders that you can roll down and just use as knee boots until you need them.

So how well do they roll down? I watched the video on the Cabelas site that demonstrates their version of a similar boot and I like the way they roll down and stow.
Are they noisy to walk in or noisy to roll down?
I really like my Tingley boots and I'm interested in getting another pair with the Yoder chaps.

They are pretty easy to roll down. They don't really roll, they just kinda fold down around the boot. If you are walking with them where they can rub together they might be a little noisy. I pull my pant legs down around them and that keeps them tucked in and they are silent.

Those should word great, I have one preset platform I made from an old climber and it honestly my favorite platform it's just too heavy to run and gun with.

I just took some more pics of a finished platform that I've spent many hours (years) non-saddle hunting from. I suppose I should post it under the "platform" sub-forum. It'll take me a little while to post the pics and edit them thru Tapatalk because Tapatalk will auto-resize the pics for file size limits.
Stand by...

I think we need to have a yard sale saddleplooza 2019! G2 is having a sale off and I could have picked up at the camp!
There’s been a couple of guys put stuff on here after saddleplooza that may have sold that weekend

I go back to it every now and then, but usually by the time I get to hunting height I wish I would've just carried two more sticks. The hardest part is keeping the tether constantly above me to minimize shock load in case of a fall. It's so easy to just climb up above the tether and then slide it up the tree in one big move, which is fine as long as you don't slip, but is a pretty big fall-factor if I were to.

What fall protection does an extra stick provide though?
You get to the top of one stick, throw your lineman’s belt around. Same in both situations

With multiple sticks I can keep the lineman's belt above waist level like a flipline which is pretty easy. Easier than trying to keep minimal slack in a tether.

You could do the same if you thought it was necessary, soon as you set the stick above you, simply step into your aider and throw your linemen belt around. One stick vs multiple sticks.... the safety process is really no different

It’s mainly a speed/comfort thing which boils down to having a specific setup

I agree. You can be safe either way if done correctly. For me, I'm much faster with multiple, but if you're as fast or faster with one, I don't see any reason not to do it.

Yeah I wouldn’t say I’m faster, but the difference versus the weight savings. I have everything setup to where I can comfortably reach down and grab my first stick, like I was grabbing my 2nd. Downside is you have to carry rap gear, but it’s still so much easier to get to 30’ vs carrying 5 LWs

That's a really good point with the rappel gear. I've always climbed back down the same way as going back up, vs just tossing sticks to the ground as I descend. Repelling from the top makes a lot of sense with that method.

I am going to try to drive next year. I have so much more crap I could have brought, and I could probably sell half of it and not even blink lol.
