Using drones to preset for SRT/DRT climbing, gonna do this, am I crazy?

Drones are illegal in my state for some hunting purposes. I'd have to read the regs again for specifics, but if you were doing presets far enough ahead of time on private land you probably wouldn't get caught here.

In terms of the technology vs woodsmanship stuff that has come up, I find it's pretty much all relative. Scoped rifles, compound bows, and lots of other things that most take for granted are substantial technological innovations over their predecessors. Nevermind the ropes, saddles, ascenders, etc. that we all use.

If it's legal, makes you happy, and in your budget, I say go for it.

Preseason, I use my ham radio slingshot to shoot lines in trees. It’s a slingshot/fishing reel/scrap copper pipe contraption that’ll put a line over any limb from 10’-100’. I’ll take a picture of it later.

This^^^^ here’s mine. FWIW, I LOVE the drone idea! But I’d think presets would be on trees I’d have a hard time one sticking.F6769D4D-D30C-4BE7-99B4-FC8EBB52DC38.jpeg5D60B361-C6C5-4993-80E2-5B34BD34A15E.jpeg

This is mine. Instead of a fishing pole, I took some scrap 1/2" copper. I soldered the copper sleeve to one side which allows me to break it down yet connect it when shooting the line.

Thought about using something like this that you could put paracord or zingit on and just leave with a preset?

There’s no line. I say find a way to mount a cross bow to your drone, fly it into a bedding area and within a few years, you’re rivaling Eberhart for book bucks! I don’t see it as any different than people flying in helicopter shooting hogs with AR’s out the side.
Or shooting them at night with thermals…but pretty sure thats on private property. Which, by the way, i would do either in a heartbeat. Especially the shooting gallery hunt.
