Waist pack instead of saddle pouches

I am considering switching to a separate waist pack aka "fanny pack' instead of using my saddle pouches. I like the idea of storing my rappel line on my lower back out of the way during the hunt and swinging it to the front of me when getting ready to leave the tree.

I am even considering daisy chaining my linesman and just connecting it from one linesman loop to other behind me to get rid of all pouches on my saddle.

Is anyone doing this? and do your recommend a pack? My rappel rope is 40' of C-IV.

I use molle pouches vs the extremely floppy dump pouches every manufacturer provides. the molle pouches stay tight and compact. I tried alot of different options for my rappel line and ended up just strapping it to my pack with my stick and i roll the whole thing out and climb on it. My LB i daisy chain but keep it attached to one loop...stays compact enough

You could also get a separate MOLLE belt and add your pouches to it. It would be the same concept; you could spin them for access and it would be easily removable.

Link to the Molle pouches you use?

I use a MOLLE waist pack as a rope bag. It fits all of my lines *and* my Recon. Since I'm using my Drey this year that's less of a plus but still. My plan had beem to wear it like a waist pack, maybe with some utility pouches on it, but I wind up leaving it on my pack and put some pouches on my RCH.

Also this is my first year using a turkey vest and I really, really like it. I bought the cheapest one I could find locally and now I want to design a strap vest for saddle hunting. If you haven't considered one, look into it.

Yes I did this for this season. Hate all the weight on the saddle. But I put mine on my actual backpack. My LB is daisychained and is the only other thing on my saddle besides the shoulder straps which are weight negligible. I like the straps to keep my saddle in the right position to not have to rely on the waist belt. However, once tensioned for one sticking, I’ve found I need to loosen the shoulder straps so I don’t get a wedgie while climbing.
