What is the non motorized way to haul a deer out of the woods or swamp

That would be tough to slide in the back of my mini van but sure sounds good.

The John Deere has only been used at home for friends family and some of my deer
It will not fit in my vehicle
I don’t hunt at home much. I leave home for weekends for my daughter to hunt

Saturday I took off walking with my rifle just still hunting in the snow. Wouldn’t you know it I spotted three feeding just as I reached the farthest point I was going to walk (nearly 2.5 miles from the vehicle). They were 392 yards across the valley even farther from the truck! Lol. I had my pack frame on my back and wasted no time setting up for a shot. I dropped the biggest one at 392 at 1pm. I ended up quartering her out and walked all the way back no problem. I got back to the vehicle at 4pm. A MILLION times easier than dragging her and I had no work to do when I got back (skinning/quartering) If you guys have never tried that method I would highly suggest it if legal in your area. Dragging a deer very far in these hills isn’t much fun.

Loaded up. Meat+gun/clothes was exactly 50lbs. Pretty easy load to pack with a good frame.

When you quarter a deer is it deboned too. How long does it take and do you bring coveralls to keep blood off hunting clothes. Is it hard to keep your hands warm when quartering. Wet hands cold hands??

Yes, I debone the meat completely. It took me about 45 minutes taking my time. I had game bags and dropped the meat inside my pack. Very little blood to deal with. My hands actually didn’t get cold at all. I had on a pair of thin Kevlar butchering gloves which I highly recommend. I’ve cut myself numerous times with my Havalon and it’s not fun lol. The gloves don’t weigh anything and I think are a nice item to have when you are alone dealing with a scary sharp blade.

Cabela's deer cart. Nice size tires and easy to put together. I have the older model with the tarp on it. Bought it when Cabela's first opened in Wheeling West Virginia.

Congrats glad u found him big body
Thanks! Yea he was an old deer for sure. Probably pushing 200# live. These north jersey deer are bigger than what I'm used to from growing up. I've probably shot 4 or 5 bucks now that I'm sure were close to or over 200 live. Working on writing up the story with more pics now :)

I have deboned all my deer but never in the field. I assume you use the gutless method Which I have never done.
I will have to ask if I can legally do that in ontario. What do I do with no tag on a deer ??

Yep gutless method. Very easy to do. I can even get the heart out without gutting. Pop two ribs out and can get it right out.

Something to try next fall on a non field dressed deer hauled to my shop with John Deere. I would want to practice once with good light and utube. Then try it in the field if it is legal.
You would save forty five minutes easy if I had to haul a deer through a mile of swamp

I did 2 does at home this year for practice after watching this video,
I did gut them in the field, but I wanted to get some experience with gutless. I am confident enough to do it in the field when I need to. I was planning on just quartering them and packing the quarters out, but I may just be better off deboning them in the field. I have all offseason to debate that one.

It was probably 45 minutes the first time.

I’d say that’s about how long it took me just taking my time and doing a good job of getting all the meat. That included deboning the front shoulders and the hams. I will say that deboning the shoulder while on the deer is so easy I wish I would have done that all along. A few cuts and the bone pops right out and you can take the entire meat of the shoulder and along the neck in one piece.

My time was without deboning, but I'm sure it will get quicker with more experience.

To clarify what you said... are you leaving the quarters on and just boning the meat directly off the deer?

Yeah, deboning directly off the carcass. I do the hams that way even when the deer is hanging. I need to do a video on that sometime.

I’d like to see a video on that, I’ve been breaking them down & packing out for a couple years now. Last season was my first at Randy’s gutless method. But deboning would be even better.......
