I want to see some loops into some 1" by. 046 nylon webbing strap. I want to use these for attaching my sticks. What thread should I use. I am hand stitching no machine. Thanks!! Shawn

Could you provide some additional information? What are you trying to make, something like daisy chain webbing? Or adding loops to a length of webbing?

Use some gov’t text FF also known as commercial size 138. Use a large eye needle. Double the thread through your needle. If your webbing has roughly 3000 lbs break strength and you see approximately 5 passes per inch, then a box “x” with the outer sides doubled, and you’ll have adequate stitch strength. Also either use uv protected nylon or polyester thread. The thread exchange has excellent choices for thread

Lots of stuff but my first will be sewing an eye on 5/8ths flat strap to go around versa buttons. Than some knaiders and swaiders, daisy chains. I got my machine and I am starting tomorrow. I bought heavy upholstery thread as mentioned above. I will let everyone know of my progress. Shawn

Congratulations on the machine. It is a world faster than hand stitching. I wouldn’t recommend upholstery thread for something holding that type of weight unless you are going to sew many inches of length for strength. Heavy Upholstery thread typically has a breaking strength of around 9lbs per pass. Even in loop configuration it goes up by a factor of 1.5 per pass. So with that you’re still only around 13 lbs per pass. Definitely would like to see your final product though!!!

Very first ever attempt at sewing anything with a machine. Not even a pratice stitch!!image000000 (8).jpg

I understand its not great but its very functional and it came out way better than I expected. I am gonna make a bunch of them and give them away as I make them. I put this one up on the Pay it Forward forum to give away. I am sure I will get better and better too!! Shawn

Oh and the others I make will have a khaki green thread which will make them nicer and black mesh after a while. I bought a yard of the codura camo so I can make a bucnh. Shawn
