Working out a lot of kinks

Hi all,

I liked what saddle hunting had to offer and I just got my equipment roughly last month. I have been practicing climbing multiple days a week and have been slowly ironing out some things. There are a few things I still have to figure out that i have found mixed answers to and wanted to get some other feedback from those who have been doing this for a while. Sorry to post so many questions into one thread.

My setup: Phantom saddle, Predator XL, Lone Wolf climbing sticks.

Questions:

1. The predator XL came with another black bracket for the platform( the teeth on the top of the back brace that bites into the tree) is there a difference between that one and the one that came on the platform i feel as though they are the same?
2. Do other people find the carabiners that come with the tethrd linemans rope to be too big and get in the way or caught on sticks? maybe im not thinking ahead and the bigger carabiners may come in handy in dark or something else?
3. I have seen ideas of quieting carabiners but is the only way to clip them quietly is to slow down the gate until it is pretty much closed? I feel as though they clip so loud unless i take the time with each one to slowly close them which when I am at the top of the tree there is a lot of clipping and unclipping.
4. Any one else run lone wolf sticks with predator platform. Any good ways to attach the platform to the sticks for easy on and off instead of literally just tying it?

Ill try to leave it to 4 questions right now (ha) but I am sure I will have a lot more in the next couple of weeks. These are just more gear questions but I am still trying to get the climbing more smooth and second nature instead of thinking out each step.

Thanks all in advance for any help.

Greg

1. The predator XL came with another black bracket for the platform( the teeth on the top of the back brace that bites into the tree) is there a difference between that one and the one that came on the platform i feel as though they are the same? Bascially the same. I believe they update to the black b/c they were getting complaints about the old one.
2. Do other people find the carabiners that come with the tethrd linemans rope to be too big and get in the way or caught on sticks? maybe im not thinking ahead and the bigger carabiners may come in handy in dark or something else? This is personal preference. I like the medium size ones.

I feel as though they clip so loud unless i take the time with each one to slowly close them which when I am at the top of the tree there is a lot of clipping and unclipping. you can use tape or go to a wire gate or screw lock/
4. Any one else run lone wolf sticks with predator platform. Any good ways to attach the platform to the sticks for easy on and off instead of literally just tying it? Lots of different ways to do this, but I finally decided to use thread rod with screw knobs (i think you can buy this from the hunting beast store...I should have patented my idea) drill holes through sticks and use bungee cord to secure the sticks to the platform.

Thanks for the reply. The drilling a hole to attach the platform is a good idea.
