Man I am telling you what! This is tough. I’m a southern MD boy all my hunting life. Went from corn pile sniper to starting to learn deer movement and getting dialed in to using that, switched up to public lands that were woods and fields with AG and marsh, and all the while had some slow downs along the learning but would always be back into the deer and do pretty successful. Last year I moved to WV, didn’t get to do much but 3-4 sits because we were busy working on the house but already saw the difficulty coming and figured with some more time I’d get it dialed no prob, I mean hey! I am pretty much in the best hunting skill levels of my life right now! This season I have been trying to get after it pretty good and I am not doing good at all!!!
The deer are few and far between, bucks of anything larger than a spike don’t seem to exist at all according to the lack of sign being found, and I am literally racking up the miles trying to find anything I can with no success. I still love it though, best hunting scenery of my life by a million percent.

Gorgeous! I have a couple of spots that are almost guaranteed meat in the freezer, but I'm really trying to learn this public land I moved near last year. I got my first buck ever last year, on public. I've been scouting my ass off this season, and I'm narrowing down some spots. I just learned the other day there is a whole network of trails that don't show on Google maps, so that's gonna make it way easier to get into some areas that look promising. The beauty of nature is half the fun!

Yes indeed. I love the game regardless of sightings, trying to figure it out is half of my enjoyment any more. But I am sure getting some good nature photography moments in the mean time! Lol

Nothing better than taking the time to enjoy the creation and applaud the creator!

Welcom to hill country! I moved to Ky in 06 from FL. I hunt WV and KY The worst part is when you shoot one on the side of the hill and they go down in the worst place at the bottom! Fun getting them out.

Hunting beast hill country video helped me a lot for finding buck beds and deer in WV.

Yes sir, I’ve watched that video before but I’m going to have to watch it again….and again……and again. Gotta keep trying to gain/retain more info every time

I grew up hunting in wv. Super fun hunting but u gotta work for them. Finding mountian thickets and native food is always where I start. I found paw paws to be draws we had wild apples and berries also. Acorns were not thing where I was at so food sources shift quickly. Pay attention to honey locust also.

I know the feeling. Up until this season I have been hunting public land in the North Georgia mountains exclusively for the past five years. Deer numbers are almost nonexistent in some areas. The DNR did away with any doe harvest several years ago hoping that will help them recover. Some biologists have said there are as few as 3 to 4 deer per square mile on some of the national forest.

The guys I know that are consistently successful up there invest a ton of time in scouting. Even during the season one of my buddies says he spends 70% of his time scouting, 30% hunting. You have to find the food to find the game. I am mainly a weekend warrior so that is tough to do. Many times I feel like I am nothing more than an armed hiker. But walking out across the top to a sunset like this makes it all worthwhile.

Hahaha, my names Jeff and I enjoy beautiful sunrise and sunset and taking my bow for long walks in the woods.
Sounds like a personal Ad:

Looking for a woman who owns or has family that owns acreage with good hunting, multiple longbows, cooks, cleans and wants to experience the hunting season together sitting in separate stands on your family’s private property. Please send pictures of longbows for consideration.
